Hi Everyone,

I can't seem to find any current threads.
Has anyone recently been diagnosed with gestational diabetes?

I'm 30 weeks pregnant and this week iv been monitoring my blood sugar levels. I don't have any symptoms. But my levels are all crazy high, even my fasting levels. Iv been strictly eating the diet they recommended, but it's not making my levels drop at all. They have told me it's hormonal.

Iv just started metformin with the expectation that il start insulin next week if nothing improves.

If anyone has any tips, advise or is going through anything similar- it would be great to hear

Thanks x

Thanks for sharing your story. It's reassuring that you had a healthy sized baby at 34 weeks.

I'm still really unwell- iv got a bad virus. Iv not been eating much as I feel soo bad. Today for lunch I had half a tin of cream of tomato soup and a slice of whole meal bread, my 1 hour reading was 13.3!! Wtf... and I'm taking metformin! What would it be if I had some chocolate cake 😵‍💫

Have you had a really restricted diet? Not able to eat anything?

I had a growth scan on sat and they said he's the correct size, that they didn't have a concern.

I'm going to the hospital on Thursday to get my insulin. Hopefully they will be able to help me. They have also booked me a number of appointments and a growth scan at 36 weeks. I'm due 21st December- so I wouldn't mind being induced early and him being around for Christmas 😊 We'l have to see. As long as he's healthy I'm willing to do whatever I need to x[/quote]
Sorry to hear you're still feeling poorly OP, really hoping you feel better soon. Soup is notoriously hard to tolerate with GD & especially with bread as well. Such a shame as I'm sure it was all you could manage! The GDUK website has some soup recipes which may interest you (when you have the energy to cook that is!)

@sociallydistained

Can I please ask if any of you had symptoms before you found out and what these are?

I had extreme thirst & tiredness but I've always been thirsty & just put the tiredness down to normal pregnancy symptoms.

The one thing that really sticks out though is before diagnosis if I had something high carb/sugar like a chocolate bar my baby's movements would be absolutely crazy! Makes sense as all the sugar was going to them.

Fasting readings are the hardest to control. Have you tried a glass of milk last thing? Walking a lot can also help. I never had a single other high reading but never had a low enough fasting reading. I ended up on 36 units but baby was still very small. He was fine though.

@JackJack84 I'm really surprised about the soup. I didn't really think about it, I just needed to eat something and it was all I could stomach.
I'm surprised that's a trigger food though- iv got a lot of learning to do!

@catlady1234 don't worry too much about it, a lot of this diet is trial & error & it's different for everyone.

These are the 2 pages I refer back to on the website regularly as they are so useful:

Hi everyone,

I started this post about a month ago.
Iv really struggled to control my GD.

I'm taking:
*2 x 500g metformin a day.
*24 units of insulin before bed- I keep upping but iv never got a green reading. Normally around 6.
*16 units before breakfast - results are hit and miss
*6 units before lunch- normally I get a green reading at lunch 🤷🏻‍♀️
*16 units before dinner- results are hit and miss

Iv got my 36 weeks scan tomorrow where I have been told il get my birth plan. Im feeling really anxious.
Can anyone help me know what to expect? How early will they induce me? Can I ask for a c-section etc.

Any advice would be great- thanks 😊
