Morning ladiesssssss, I went for an early ultrasound and it dated me 5+6. Gestational sac and yolk sac was seen but no embryo, I know it still might be a little early for that to be seen so I'm not overly worried although would of been nice to see :(. After reading my notes it states there was free fluid in my pouch of Douglas and an area of haemorrhage was seen around the gestational sac also right corpus luteum seen. Is anyone able to help me understand what they all mean, they just sound bad to me. The lady did not mention any of this to me she just said everything looks as it should. Thank you 😊

There is often fluid in pouch of Douglas after ovulation. This doesn't mean much. The corpus luteum is what is left behind after you ovulate and it produces progesterone to maintain a pregnancy in the early days. The area of haemorrhage I'm less sure about but it could be an implantation bleed. You are right in that it might be too early to see embryo. I don't think it sounds like a worrying report.

Thank you so much for replying. I know every pregnancy is different I just can't stop comparing my second, we had an early scan too and at 5+4 there was the heartbeat, no bleeds and no fluid so as you can imagine my mind is just going into overdrive 🤦🏼‍♀️ x

The area of haemorrhage might be what I had when pregnant with DS, basically just a little pocket of blood in the uterus. Tech said it would either come out on it’s own or get absorbed back into my body, I guess it got absorbed as I never had any bleeding.

@Gemmy8989 was just told free fluid too. Can you share your outcome?

Gemmy8989 · 05/05/2022 21:33

Hi @rj11 nothing ever came of it and I’m currently 36+4 ☺️☺️ X

My area of haemorrhage. This was at approx 6 weeks. Was described also as a haematoma. I was told it was like a wee bruise caused by implantation and would either reabsorb or would be expelled and I’d have a small bleed, most likely brown. By my 8 week scan it had reabsorbed.
