Ketones in Urine from vomiting

Is this bad for the baby ? I was in a and e yesterday and got put on a drip. I'm 9 weeks pregnant. The last three weeks have been hell. I didn't realise quite how unwell I was. Vomiting a lot and absolutely exhausted. I've never been so exhausted in my life.

I'm now worried that this has been bad for the baby. Any experiences ?

I had this in my pregnancy with DD, also around 9 weeks - she was absolutely fine. It's such a horrible experience though, I had never felt so ill. Look after yourself.

I was like this and found out I was having twins (it was all fine in the end). The doctors gave me something to help prevent vomiting (they don't like to but if you're ill enough to be on a drip they will) it was a pill that dissolved under the tongue.

Nothing wrong with ketones in your blood at all, they are just the result of your body fueling itself from fat rather than sugar.

I've had a couple of meds and was given a third one yesterday. Still feel pretty nauseous. But have managed to eat and keep most of it down and OH MY GOD I can't even describe how much more energy I have now. I pray it continues. It's a miserable existence and no one understands.

I had hyperemesis gravadarium with my first and was repeatedly in hospital on a drip. Reassured at every appointment that ‘babies are parasites’ (exact phrase!) and that they will take everything from you and not suffer at all. Ice Lolly’s can help.

Aw ok. Well that's reassuring. The doctor who spoke to me just kept saying to come in if I bleed.

When did you know to get help at the hospital ? I'm pretty unwell now all the time, but they didn't advise under which circumstances I should go back. Only mentioned that I should go back if I have bleeding.

I weighed less when I had my little boy than I did when I fell pregnant and wasn’t hug to start with (about a 10-12). Was consultant led and had frequent check ups and had 3 lots of anti sickness tablets each day but was still vomiting. Most of the time was kept in following appointments or a couple of times when I fainted etc. Hopefully you just have bad morning sickness and it will shortly go away….not last til baby is here.

It really is horrible though. I’m pregnant again after 5 miscarriages and my husband smiles when I vomit…….

I have always found that the more tired I am the more I vomit so try and get some rest

Oh gosh that sounds dreadful ! How much weight did you lose? Did you lose only in the first trimester or all the way through ? They have diagnosed HG in my case, but hopefully it won't be that severe. The thing is, I also had it in my last pregnancy. But I just had relentless nausea with one daily vomit. It lasted the entire pregnancy and none of the drugs touched it. It's a misery.

I can’t remember the exact figures now but I was much worse between 20-40 weeks than I was in the early days 😒

Search for "pregnancy sickness support", back when I was where you are now there was a very supportive Facebook group and a website full of info
