Anomoly scan inconclusive and being repeated

Just after some reassurance. Had my anomoly scan yesterday at 20 + 5 and they couldn't view most of baby's organs because of his position (transverse with back to them). I'm really worried that something is going to be wrong when they rescan next week. Has anyone else had this but all turned out OK? Tia x

I had to have a few extra scans with mine op, it was fine
Of course I can't promise 100% but it was with mine, just baby lying awkwardly. It's really routine to have to rescan to get the bits they missed x

I had 3 scans with my daughter as she was. Stubborn and curled up in a corner and wouldn't move. Couldn't see half of her. I must've walked half a mile each time trying to get her to move.

Try not to worry (easier, said thank done). They aren't saying there's anything wrong/ they are saying they can't see the baby fully. Fingers crossed for you x

I had this and everything was fine, just baby was being awkward on the first attempt.

DominicRaabsTravelAgent · 24/09/2021 19:44

Agree with the PPs, the extra scan is just because if the position of the baby. Absolutely nothing to worry about Thanks

IamJuliaJohnson · 24/09/2021 19:46

This doesn’t sound like the extra scan is because they’ve seen something worrying; it sounds as though they couldn’t see what they needed to so need to try again

Mamaux · 24/09/2021 19:47

Thank you for your replies. This makes me feel much better that it isn't unusual. They said he is wedged in a little corner and is refusing to move (this also worried me). Hopefully he will behave next week and I will have positive news 😁

Had this just a few weeks ago as my daughter was in an awkward position, went back a week later and still in an awkward position but managed to get everything done after alot of prodding and wiggling around, she's fine just stubborn!

Imohsotired · 24/09/2021 19:53

I had a second scan because they couldn’t see one leg and the heart despite poking and prodding. All was well with the second scan, baby was just curled up.

ComDummings · 24/09/2021 19:55

It’s not unusual at all, sometimes the baby just doesn’t want to move and gets wedged away. Don’t worry! I’m sure at the next scan they’ll get the measurements/images they need

I had this with my first.

Little monkey that she is, she refused to let the sonographer get a good look at her heart, necessitating a re-scan. At the re-scan she was asleep in the most awkward position she could be in so they still couldn't get a good picture of her heart. I was sent away for an hour to try to get her to move. So I: walked the whole length of the hospital, climbed every set of stairs I came across, ate a hearty breakfast, and drank a caffeinated fizzy beverage. I think DD got the message that I meant business and was beautifully positioned at the re-re-scan.

The need for a re-scan doesn't mean there's anything wrong. Sometimes babies are just awkward little things. Nothing has changed since her birth btw. She's still a stubborn soul who contorts herself into the most amazing positions while asleep.

I had this - midwife couldn’t get a measure on the bones of one of the legs and the foot. Wandered around the hospital for half an hour, drank a fat coke, then went back to try again. Still in awkward position so I had to do some interesting wriggling/body slams on the bed until baby finally decided to move. All was well.

HandforthParishCouncilClerk · 24/09/2021 22:14

I had this too. He started school last week….

Trinacham · 24/09/2021 22:41

Was only one thing they couldn't see at mine (couldn't get a view of all 4 chambers on the heart). Was fine at the repeat scan x

sheusesmagazines · 25/09/2021 05:49

I had this too! Had gone for a long run that morning which apparently makes the baby wedge right down into the pelvis. 2nd scan was fine!

@Mamaux another one here 👍🏻 Had to go back a week later for a re-scan. They couldn’t see the valves going in and out of the heart because baby was in such an awkward position.
They really don’t tend to mess about if they think they’ve seen something worrying - I have friends who have been in that position and they were referred straight away for a scan with a consultant rather than a rescan. Thankfully all was fine and baby was just being awkward.
