Urine dip stick test - infection?

Hi,
I am 24 weeks pregnant and for the past couple weeks I've been having lower back pain. I thought it was because I have a high bmi.
At 2 of my midwife appoitments over the last couple months they've asked me if I have had any UTI symptoms and I haven't up until now.
I hate making a fuss and being a inconvenience to health care people as I know that they are so busy so I bought some irons dip stick tests and now I'm not sure how
To read them Hmm from what I gather, my infection is pos, blood is pos and possibly protein? I'm not sure. I've texted my midwife after my OH persuaded me to just check. Does anyone know how to read them?
Many thanks
Smile

You have leukocytes, that's a sign of infection. As are blood and protein (especially with kidney involvement). As you're pregnant you need to speak to GP today and get antibiotics. Drop off a sample at your surgery, if they do that (most do and will treat that day if they dip it and it's positive).

Yes that looks like infection and also blood that’s concerning. Hopefully midwife will get back and test properly. I’m surprised they didn’t test for back pain given some UtI can have no bladder pain or urgency symptoms. Hopefully it’s easy fix for you.

It looks like you have an infection but you still need your GP to look at a sample. I often have a similar dip stick but on further examination I have no bacteria (so no infection). I regularly have blood in my urine with no specific cause. Doctors are completely unconcerned. Especially in pregnancy a sample might be cross contaminated with a tiny tiny bit of blood from the vagina. But you definitely need to contact your GP today and have a proper analysis and if necessary start antibiotics as soon as possible. At my surgery I don't really deal with a doctor for UTI's and it is the assistants that deal with the sample, dip sticks and if necessary sending it off to hospital. The doctor only deals with a positive result. Good luck!

Thankyou everyone for your reply's, I have sent an econsult of to the doctors asking if I can drop a sample of to them. To see what they think. Hopefully it'll be just something simple. Thanks so much again Smile

It could be and definitely get checked for reassurance, but as blood and proteins are only 'trace' then I wouldn't get too worried - midwife/doctors never seem concerned when 'trace' because as PP said there can be contamination, or just a tiny amount one day then not the next x

It's interesting that they asked you if you had symptoms of a UTI. After my 12 week scan they tested urine & blood etc and it was flagged that I had a UTI, I googled it because I was totally bemused as I'd never had a UTI without very obvious symptoms before but apparently it's not uncommon in pregnancy to have a UTI without some symptoms. So now my urine sample is being dipped at every appointment and if there's any traces it's being sent away for testing in case I need antibiotics again.
So worth bearing in mind that UTI's can have no symptoms so if you're concerned you should definitely ask to be tested.

Thankyou everyone for your reply's, I've sent my urine in to the doctors and I've just had a message to say they'd like me to collect 7 days worth of antibiotics. Hopefully that will help Confused
