Small amounts of brown discharge - help!!

Hi all

I’m about 9 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child (had a previous MC in feb this year at 6 weeks)

I noticed yesterday in my bikini bottoms (currently on holiday) there were some browny stains. Then when I went out for dinner the same in my nickers. When I wiped there was the tiniest weenie at bit of brown discharge that wasn’t even there after the 2nd wipe.

This morning I’ve had the same again - honestly such small amounts but still enough to worry me.

I never had this with my 1st pregnancy and getting kind of worried. Even more worried as I can’t actually do anything about it as I’m on holiday for another week still.

Has anyone had this and it turned out fine??

Thanks!! X

I did in my first pregnancy and everything was fine. Brown blood is old blood so generally nothing to worry about, red blood is fresh and usually more of a concern. Hope everything is ok

I had brown discharge throughout the whole trimester, and 2 actual bleeds. Baby was always fine. I'm not 21 weeks. It all stopped once I reached the second trimester.

Good luck. I know how hard it is to relax when you're going through it.

Very unlikely to be anything to worry about.

I know a few people who had significant bleeds of fresh blood and it was fine.

(Easier said than done not to worry - I remember rushing to loo every time I felt any wetness because I was convinced it would be blood)

Thanks everyone. Hopefully everything is ok then!!

Always said I would be more relaxed next time around but I forgot how horrible the first 12 weeks are. X

I have this too. Occasionally it's pink but not red

I have my 16 week app tomorrow so going to mention it to my midwife as I've had it on and off since about 8/9 weeks

Peach01 · 19/09/2021 23:27

I had this. Sometimes it was paler. Midwife wasn't concerned unless I was bleeding through pads or had fresh blood for 2 hours. Everything was great. They did say to contact them any time it happened though.
Give your midwife a call even for reassurance.

Have you recently had sex as this could be the reason? It can irritate the cervix and cause a little blood x

Littlemuffin17 · 20/09/2021 13:36

@Cafeaulait27 yes I did actually and I did wonder if that caused it.

I feel like my sickness has gone now too which is worrying me. I didn’t really get sickness with my 1st pregnancy so not sure how unusual it is for it to go this early on.

May end up just getting a private scan when I’m back for the reassurance or trying to speak to the EPU.

This is exactly what my midwife has said to me today 😊

The day after I found out I was pregnant at 8.5 weeks I had this all day. Brown discharge throughout the day. I was in shock about the pregnancy and didn’t really take it on board properly but I never ever had it again and I’m now 21 weeks and all is fine. It is a worry, OP but perfectly normal at this stage.

Itsbeen84yearss · 20/09/2021 14:52

Yep. It can be fine. I actually had red blood with my second not just brown

Cafeaulait27 · 20/09/2021 14:59

@Littlemuffin17 this used to happen to me every time we had sex with this pregnancy, and everything was fine. I totally understand why you would find it worrying though.

Symptoms do come and go too, so not necessarily any need to worry about that. I remember feeling totally normal at times in my first trimester and it was really freaking me out.

If you need reassurance though, no harm in calling epu xx

Thanks everyone Smile this has definitely reassured me! Didn’t realise how common it was! X
