Extra nipple appearing in pregnancy

I posted on another board last night, concerned about a change in my breasts.

Underneath one breast to be exact, a strange spot/mole type thing on the surface of my skin unlike any pimples I've had before.

After some worry another MNer replied to say she'd had the same and it turned out to be an extra nipple! Made more prominent by pregnancy hormones.

I'm going to have it checked out just to be on the safe side but I'm pretty sure that's what this is after doing some research.

So has anybody else had the same happen or know anybody else who has? So strange Grin

Could be a skin tag
They can appear in pregnancy too

Rosesareyellow · 19/09/2021 12:28

Didn’t know that was possible… surely we are born with all those kinds of body parts? You couldn’t just grow an extra nose or and extra toe? I don’t think nipples are any different. Did you notice anything there before? As a pp said, probably a skin tag, but if you’re concerned seek medical advice.

This happened to someone I know. She had what she thought was a mole but when she was pregnant, milk came out! I think accessory/extra nipples are usually present from birth rather than develop during pregnancy?

They're called supernumery nipples, more common than you'd think apparently.

Yes I think that's right actually, you can have them from birth but never become aware of them until pregnancy / hormonal changes as they can change and become obvious with the fluctuation of hormones.

Fascinating stuff!

I first noticed what I thought was a spot atleast a month ago but thought it was just down to sweating, checked last night and it's still there but more prominent.

I'm definitely going to have it looked at but I'm convinced that's what it is after doing lots of reading and looking at pictures today Smile

It's possible it has always been there to be fair, just not as prominent as it is now due to hormones.

I’ve got one (diagnosed by a dermatologist) and it’s definitely become more pronounced since pregnancy

Garman · 20/09/2021 13:04

It does sound like one based on the location alright, usually nothing to worry about, just ornamental 😄

Rubyrecka · 20/09/2021 17:55

I think a lot of bits tend to appear when pregnant! Skin tags, moles can be more prominent, all sorts of stuff

EmbarrassedNC21 · 20/09/2021 21:32

Isn't pregnancy a joy!

I had never heard of such a thing before.

It's actually a relief if anything though, I was absolutely baffled and a bit concerned before it clicked what it was.

I hope it doesn't bloody lactate Grin

Is yours under a breast too?

I read yesterday that they can appear pretty much anywhere even the armpit Grin

I know someone with one. But they did know what it was before pregnancy. Yes, it did change but has gone back to how it was before!

TheWayTheLightFalls · 20/09/2021 21:39

I’d expect it was a skin tag. I developed one under a breast during pregnancy.

Albgo · 20/09/2021 22:17

I've got one under my left breast. Have always had it. Didn't notice it change during pregnancy at all, but I did get loads of skin tags.

EccentricaGalumbits · 20/09/2021 22:23

I too have one under my left breast, which my parents had always called a birthmark. My father has one in the same spot.

It was flat but did swell and appear more like a tiny nipple when pregnant but never produced milk.

In medieval times a 3rd nipple was a mark of a witch and you would've been burned at the stake!

CraftyGin · 20/09/2021 22:26

A third nipple is not uncommon.

DS1 was diagnosed with a third nipple when he was two. Nothing came of it, and I doubt he even knows.

BlackShadowCat · 20/09/2021 22:28

I had this too. A little milk came out if I squeezed it.

Miniestelle · 20/09/2021 22:32

Harry Styles has a 3rd nipple. So i've heard.

Shit. We'll I'm thankful not to be of that era then Shock

Yes it is very common.

I've had a mole under my left breast since forever and kept an eye on it.
Then during first pregnancy it developed the nipple bit on it.

I think I'll get it frozen off after this second pregnancy

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 20/09/2021 22:51

My little nipple 🤣

My little nipple 🤣
Ha that's identical to mine!

The photo I posted upthread is a bit deceiving due to the lighting mind, but they are almost exactly the same Grin

Lol yeh I thought so. I do think it happens to a lot of people but obviously they don't talk about it!

Palpal12 · 10/02/2024 20:45

I know this is an old post but so interesting I just suddenly wanted to dig in my third nipple . Mines looks more like a mole wonder how long it’s been there and if sometimes they are just moles or skin tags which I thought it was from rubbing against the area clothing . Did you ever get yours officially diagnosed ?
