22 weeks pregnant and bright red bleeding

I am 22 weeks pregnant and I had bleeding last night. The colour was bright red and it was a small quantity. I went to the Maternity Assessment and they checked the cervix and the baby. All seemed fine. My cervix is indeed short (26 mm). I haven't had sexual relations in a long time. Has anyone experienced this at this stage? Thank you in advance.

What are they going to do about the short cervix? Are they thinking of putting a stitch in?
You should also ask about steroids for the baby etc.

I will have the cervix measured again in two days. Let's see. Yesterday seems fine, but they did not measure it.

A friend of mine had bright red bleeding from 18 weeks up to 34 weeks, this was due to her having a low lying placenta.

Have they said whether yours is low or not?

I had lots of bleeding with my first, which was down to cervical ectropion, all was fine just not very pleasant as sends you into a panic each time

Thank you. I have anterior placenta, but they said that this would be the cause of the bleeding.

It’s not just the anterior placenta- it’s also if it’s low lying and covering the cervix. This is known as placenta previa. If it is then absolutely no sex and take it easy. If the cervical length is fine and there is no placenta previa it might just be a one off.

Thank you. They said that the placenta is not covering the cervix and it is not low - lying. I hope this was just one off.

I have experienced bleeding/spotting from 21 weeks to 32 weeks (I'm now 34 weeks).

The Doctors think mine is caused by cervical ectropion. They have told me I cannot exercise throughout my pregnancy, only walking because it can cause my cervix to become irritated and then bleed. It's happened so many times now! I also have been advised no sex at all but to be honest that's the last thing I want to do!

I would say if it happens again always get it checked out just in case something changes 😊

It could be so many things.
In my first pregnancy I had sproradic bleeds throughout, starting just after 20 weeks.
It was eventually confirmed I had polyps which are quite common in pregnancy due to increased blood flow.
I had massed surgery on one at around 33 weeks as it was ok the head of my cervix. It wasn’t pleasant but it was good to know the cause finally!

Thank you. What worried me was the bright red colour. I already had other types of bleeding but never this colour. Glad that all went well with you!
