5 weeks and bleeding

Hi all,

I’m just after some advice from anyone who has been in this situation. I’m 36, first time trying to conceive, and came off the mini pill in May. Periods quickly returned and in the second month of trying to conceive I found out last weekend I was pregnant. Last period was 8th August and last cycle was 24 days. I happened to do another digital test last Thursday and it said pregnant, but Friday morning I woke up and I was bleeding, dark red like a period. No clots just blood. Had to use a pad and used two on Friday. The bleeding also coincided with having a job interview on Friday so I was feeling stressed anyway. I panicked and called the Early Pregnancy Unit at the hospital and they just said if the bleeding was so heavy I was changing a pad every hour I was to go to a&e but otherwise just monitor and do another test in 2 weeks time. The bleeding did not get to that level, it was heaviest on Friday but it eased off on Saturday and now it is faint spotting. I called my GP surgery today and the receptionist said the doctor wouldn’t be able to do anything at this stage, she suggested calling the midwife for advice. The receptionist added that she had bleeding all the way through her pregnancy and she now has a 9 year old! The midwife wasn’t available so they put me through to another early pregnancy unit, this time a different hospital. This time the advice was very blunt and she said there was nothing they could do and I just needed to wait 2 weeks before testing again. She said really I was only 1 week after having a period so I may not even be definitely pregnant and right now the lining is just thickening up and there is nothing to see on a scan. She said if they seen everyone who was worried the hospital wouldn’t be able to cope. She even said it is pointless seeing my GP this week (although I am going to go as I managed to get an appointment for Friday as I want to talk to someone). I do understand they are busy but at the same time some support would have been appreciated and I’m sure loads of people have felt a bit lost at the beginning. I keep reading about implantation bleeding and I’m wondering if that is what I’m experiencing, or if it is an early pregnancy loss, but right now I know I won’t get any definite answers until a few weeks down the line. From what I have read it could still go either way so preparing in my head for both outcomes, there just seems to be a lack of support at the very early pregnancy stage so I wondered if anyone else had been in this situation before and had any words of advice x

@Alisha32 I’m sorry to hear you are going through this too. It’s the not knowing which is the worst part. I would say contact your GP and try to get an early scan. I’m hoping my GP will refer me for one when I go on Friday as I’m still none the wiser. I have had some very light brown discharge when I wipe but no major bleeding since I first posted. I feel different, very bloated, and having vivid dreams every night, but also wonder if my body may be playing tricks on me if it was still getting over a chemical pregnancy. Roll on Friday and hopefully some answers. Take care of yourself and hope you have a positive outcome, bleeding doesn’t always mean the end and you read that a lot on here x

@LIB2020

Hi *@Alisha32* sorry you are currently going through this, I know it’s such an anxious time especially when you have had previous loss. Can you self refer to you early pregnancy unit ? As you are 6 weeks they should be able to do a scan or if they won’t do it just yet maybe you can get your hcg levels taken just to confirm pregnancy and to check if they are doubling. I know bloods don’t prove that everything is ok but it may give you a little reassurance while awaiting a scan I know it did for me anyway. Sorry not much help here but I really hope everything turns out well for you. It’s so tough not knowing what is going on! Take care 💕
I have been advised by the doctor to wait it out it's really frustrating my happiness of finding out didn't last

Thank you for the support and advice

Hello Alisha
I am just seeing this thread and experiencing exactly the same thing you described on here with red blood in early pregnancy and soreness of breasts reducing. Please may I ask how you got on? I am so worried but know I have to wait it out x
