I wouldn't have thought so. Mucous plug is thick, like jelly.

If you're worried it can't hurt to speak to a midwife though.

Your mucous plug is usually kind of jelly like and either clear or with a little blood in. What you're describing sounds more like discharge which is normal.

Even if it is your mucous plug though that doesn't mean pre term labour, you can lose your plug multiple times throughout pregnancy as it can grow back.

The pressure could be baby turning head down. If you're ever worried at all though contact your midwife or MAU

@Helloxxxxxx it is possible it was your plug then but as I say, it can grow back multiple times so that in itself isn't anything to worry about. Some people lose it a few times throughout their pregnancy, it isn't a sign of pre term labour.

Try not to worry. As I say though, if ever worried, contact your midwife, they'll be happy to help

I had this at 32 weeks, baby didn't come til 42! As pp said, it grows back and your can keep making more. Try not to worry but do speak to your midwife if you're concerned.

Give your midwife or the hospital a call. They might get you in to have a little look. Best to go and get seen as they can reassure you.

Please see a doctor ASAP. This happened to me during pregnancy and it was only by chance that I had my 20 weeks scan shortly after and the obstetrician realised that my mucus plug had come loose and I’d started dilating etc. Had to have an emergency procedure to tie everything together again the next day and was on strict horizontal bed rest for weeks after. Please get it checked.

Helloxxxxxx · 20/08/2021 00:05

@Narikk333 hi can I ask what your mucus plug looked like and if you had any other symptoms of the dilation and thank you I am going to call the hospital

How did you get on OP?

SillyBry · 20/08/2021 11:16

I started losing my plug about a week before I went into labour with my first... increased snotty discharge... every time I wiped there was more!!
I would say it sounds like your body is gearing up for the event at least xxx

SillyBry · 20/08/2021 11:17

(Edit... I've just realised you're not at the end of the pregnancy. In which case it might just be increased discharge! I have a lot of that too!) Hopefully nothing to be concerned about, but worth checking :-)
