Teachers, where do you get maternity clothes?

I've looked in H&M (and found a couple of things there), ASOS and New Look etc., but I'm struggling to find anything suitable for work. Most of it seems to be leggings and joggies! Any tips on where to find smart maternity clothes?

Wasn't a teacher but in an office. I did dresses - mix of phase eight (they do stretchy dresses) and seraphine

I really hated buying and paying the price for new stuff so bought a lot of second hand stuff from eBay

AliasGrape · 17/08/2021 11:50

I was going to say Seraphine - more than I’d have been willing to pay new/ full price but they have an outlet section or I got stuff on Vinted and eBay.

I mostly made do with leggings and tunics/ dresses, and because I was due in summer I bought a few cheap stretchy maxi dresses just in a bigger size which I wore with a cardigan. Probably wasn’t my most stylish phase of life but I was comfy.

Not a teacher but have a professional job - have recently bought some lovely pieces from Seraphine and Isabella Oliver.

Not a teacher here also but office job and Seraphine - I shopped the outlet though and dresses were about £35

I'm not a teacher but got some lovely maternity trousers from Dorothy Perkins.
Proper normally, black, slim fit work trousers but they were really comfy.

I lived in Dorothy Perkins maternity dresses a few years back. Some were more on the casual side than I would normally wear for school, but still absolutely fine.

Clarabellawilliamson · 17/08/2021 13:28

I had a couple of plain black jersey dresses, I think they were from next maternity range and wore with a long cardigan.

Arecklessmanor · 17/08/2021 13:52

I got some work wear in the Next clearance section online and a few dresses from ebay, also some jeans (not for work) but they were cheap in Dorothy Perkins.

rainingcats · 17/08/2021 14:06

Next - look in the clearance section as can be expensive when not in sale.

Most of mine has come from Asda & eBay this time. I got some cotton trousers with stretchy panel, a jersey pencil skirt, a few tops & a couple of dresses, then just pop a cardigan over if it’s cooler. I got all black & white so I can mix & match too. I’m finishing first week of Oct so unless it’s freezing I figured lighter summer stuff should be fine until then.

Teacher here. Get a few nice dresses from seraphine. Some can be a bit low cut so you might need a vest underneath.

TU at Sainsbury’s

JoJo Maman and New Look.

Kate105 · 17/08/2021 15:52

I got some non frumpy nice work trousers from ASOS but I've also found New Look/H&M to be good for basics. I also got some gorgeous jersey dresses from Envie de Fraises- well worth the postage IMO. It's not easy though, I can really sympathise! According to most maternity clothes outlets pregnant women can only live in leggings or jeans... 🙄

Oh and if you are a dress wearer, I would thoroughly recommend spending money on decent maternity tights. I got mine from Next and they are worth every extortionate penny!

bsquared · 17/08/2021 16:01

The first time round, I just wore my normal work clothes - I always wore stretchy dresses and tights, and that worked fine for winter.

This time, shops were shut when I needed to come back to school from lockdown, so I threw money at the problem and ordered from Seraphine and Isabella Oliver (... and I have really enjoyed my maternity wardrobe, which will see me through breastfeeding and maybe even returning to work). Good luck!

QueenofLouisiana · 17/08/2021 16:05

I used H&M, Dorothy Perkins and bought higher end stuff second hand. I loved the skirts with the stretchy band which supported my bump right at the end.

Kate105 · 17/08/2021 16:07

Oooh yes @QueenofLouisiana good shout on the stretchy skirts! I got a basic black pencil skirt from ASOS (think the brand was Mamalicious off the top of my head) and that has been invaluable!

Whaam · 17/08/2021 17:45

Thanks, everyone! I have lots of ideas now :)

I’ve been buying maternity and nursing clothes from a site called PatPat. It looks a little sus at first glance as it claims to be a us company but all the products come from China. I’ve placed a few orders now and they take about 2 weeks to arrive but the quality is good enough for the amount of time you’ll be using them. I bought 6 nice nursing tops for £35 and they have a huge selection. Only issue is the sizing- I’m a 10-12 and buy a large size which is comfortably loose on me
