Hygienist included in exemption?

Hi,
I've got my exemption certificate now and know that prescriptions and NHS dentistry is included. Would a regular visit to a hygienist for a scale and polish be included too? I've never had this done and feel I should. I'm also lucky to actually have a NHS dentist (although am seeing a private one for teeth straightening) so might as well book an appointment.

Most hygienists even in nhs practices are private so you will still have to pay sadly.

Ok, that's good to know. Thank you.

Unfortunately not free. I'm still paying for mine.

In Scotland, my dentist (specifically not the hygienist) did a scale and polish for me and it was included in the exemption. I’d just gone in for a check-up, he told me if I wanted I could rebook with her but it would cost and with him it was free. Maybe worth checking?

If the dentist refers you for treatment from a hygienist it will be free. If you ask or refer yourself it’s not xxxx

Whilst that should be the case, it's often not true.

Oh right, that’s a shame. I went to the dentist at the beginning of my pregnancy and he did a scale and polish and I wasn’t charged at all. Could that be an option??
