Anti-sickness drugs - how long before they work

I’m 7.5weeks and I’ve been really struggling with nausea & vomiting and not really able to eat and drink much at all.

The doctor prescribed me cyclizine on Monday which I think worked the first time but after that I threw it up. I went back to them and they prescribed prochlorperazine. I took it yesterday afternoon and I think it kind of helped but then felt really sick again by the evening and only managed a few bites of food and a little water. I took one this morning and really struggled with the taste then felt like very nauseous about an hour after I put it in and that lasted some time.

Looking for advice from people who have had anti-emetics. How long did you try something before you knew if it worked or not.

The GP said to call back if this one isn’t working as it can take a few tries to get it right but I want to give it a fair shot before moving onto the next one.

I tried each tablet for between 5/7 days before speaking to the dr again, felt like a longggg time leaving it in between whilst being so poorly, not sure how long you should leave it :( it took 3 tries before getting my medication right, the physical vomiting has more or less stopped but I still feel so nauseous, dizzy and dehydrated although I am drinking a lot more than I was originally x

Oh goodness, I’m not sure I can last that long. The first one was easy because I was being sick as soon as I took it.

Glad you found something that helps a bit, although it sounds like it’s still very difficult. Not being able to drink awful.

They never worked for me 😟. I'm only tried two types but gave up and luckily nausea we t away after 16 long weeks.

Definitely go back sooner rather than later and try changing pill or dose.

It's horrible. I lost half a stone in the first trimester. Sending love Thanks

I was given Prochlorperazine after almost 9 weeks of suffering from HG.
Initially it had zero affect on the nausea and vomiting. But after a week of taking 3 tablets a day I got on top of it.
Im now 23weeks and still taking one or two tablets a day to keep the nausea at bay.
Take as prescribed but when you start feeling better try to drop to the lowest dose you can manage.
Constant nausea and vomiting is awful, you have my full sympathy.

Thank you both.

How did you cope with the awful taste of it for hours?

I haven't really had an awful taste to be completely honest with you.
Maybe I've just been lucky with the meds?
