Hey

So today I've had a pretty tough / worrying day.

I found out I was pregnant last week. I have been getting pain in my ovary (quite bad) so I called my EPU yesterday. They said they don't usually take self referrals but asked what was wrong and said to go in for a scan today.

When in the scan room, they initially tried to scan me over my tummy (too early to show anything) so did an internal scan. They could see my lining had thickened and could see a gestational sac (empty) in my uterus but then took a massive interest in my right ovary (where pain is ).

They could see a Harmorrhagic Corpas Luteum Cyst but could tell if there was something else there, I.e eptopic - they told me to wait for the doctor.

The doctor then took bloods, did an abdominal exam then an internal exam and said everything felt fine.

My blood levels were HCG at 668 and progesterone at 82.3. So doctor said it's likely I'm just very early / failing pregnancy (although progesterone levels are apparently encouraging) and that he doesn't think it's an eptopic. I have to go back on Sunday to have bloods again and see what the numbers say.

Anyway, has anybody been through anything similar??

Does anybody know what my blood levels mean / indicate etc?? I'm too scared to google.

I'm so worried about eptopic and also hate this limbo land I'm in.

Any advice / experiences would be really appreciated!!!!!

Thanks

N x

Sorry you are going through this.

I thought I was pregnant last year as getting positive pregnancy tests.

The pain I was in was excruciating enough that I took ibuprofen even though I know you're not supposed to if pregnant. I thought the worst although they ruled out ectopic just from speaking to me.

Never had a scan but had blood tests which my medical records confirm as a miscarriage. HCG was never as high as yours though when tested.

Anyway, due to timeline of events I'm 100% certain I was never pregnant - I was bleeding from the day I ovulated and for the next 5 weeks and has positive pregnancy tests for 3 weeks (all weak but obvious).

I'm certain it was down to corpus luteum cyst. I have PCOS but no history of having cysts or pain caused by cysts. Only difference is I was taking supplements to promote ovulation (similar to clomid).

I do hope this goes well for you though 🤞🏻💐

I'm sorry to hear what you went through.. that must have been really hard to deal with. Especially with conflicting things (positive pregnancy test and bleeding). How are you doing now?

The sister who called me to tell me my blood results said that apparently the cyst thing is quite common - but can cause pain if some blood seeps out! She also said that they wouldn't expect to see anything with my HCG at that level but that if it doubles Sunday then we will give nature time to let it grow and then re-scan and it's probably super early.

I think I was more shocked yesterday at going in to think everything would be ok to suddenly the sonographer and her assistant pointing the the screen whilst having it over my ovary saying "is that it" etc... and saying "there is no pregnancy in your uterus" that just freaked me out so much - and was obviously alone because COVID. I don't know why as that's the reason I went in because I always thought of you have one sided pain it could be eptopic!!

Thank you for replying xx

How far along do you think you are? I'm not sure based on HCG but my blood tests were ridiculously low. Had to have 4 blood tests because they obviously assumed I was pregnant as false positives are so incredibly rare (one nurse said impossible but that's absolutely not true!). Anyway my HCG was only ever double digits. At highest maybe in the 70s I think and only when I got down to 4 did they confirm miscarriage (has to be under 5 I believe). But even taking that long if it was a miscarriage would be so unusual.

I'm very pragmatic about the whole thing. When I thought it was actually a pregnancy I was just glad I could get pregnant. The physical pain I had was much worse than any emotional pain.

I've just had a 20 week scan so definitely pregnant now and all good so far...took about 4.5 yrs to get pregnant though so a very long journey!

Hopefully your HCG doubles for the next blood test and things progress nicely for you 😊

Hi Nina..could you please let me where you were having pain and your pregnancy symptoms? I have a 6 week pregnancy ( I think) ..I haven't had my first properly scan but I've had a rough start with low hcg levels. The last one was 730 at 5 weeks. Im having pain in left ovary since two three days and I get this pain when i have a cyst or I'm ovulating. The doctor has asked me to wait for a scan..I'm feeling v much alone..scared if ectopic and chemical (ny last pregnancy was a chemical one)..would appreciate any guidance.

Hey lovely - sorry you're going through this.

I just had pain on my right side, which was the cyst. My HCG didn't double when I had my 2nd bloods - I think they went up by like 70%.

If you think you're 6 weeks could you get a private reassurance scan? X

Hi.

Thanks so much for reply. Looks like its another waiting game. The ultrasound showed a sac in uterus but its small. Radiologist thinks I conceived late..its 7mm at the moment..she says its 3+ weeks and she wants me to come back after 2 to 3 weeks to look for a heartbeat. Doctor is quiet she said she cannot give any definitive answer unless there is a heartbeat so she put me on progesterone injections on top of pill I'm already taking. My nausea is barely there. I have no other major symptoms so im pretty scared. Can just pray and wait I guess.
