Low iron and BP- feel so weak and tired 33 weeks dc2

I'm having a very similar pregnancy to my first dc in terms of my symptoms.

  1. Anaemic (levels at 89 despite taking iron tablets and having iron rich diet)
  2. Low blood pressure (makes me feel lightheaded when I do too much too fast)

Midwives are refusing to give me an iron transfusion (despite consultant advice) until closer to due date.

I'm struggling now especially with my 2 year old! I'm knackered constantly and always have a heavy, tired, weak feeling in my body.

Anybody got any tips for what made them feel perkier?

Apologies if you have tried these things already but do you always take the iron tablets with orange juice? I took mine with berocca (checked with midwife and consultant that this was ok) and my levels increased from 84 to 91 over a period of 4 weeks. They haven't improved any further though so I have to phone labour ward for an appointment time for an iron infusion tomorrow.

Similar to yourself I had asked and was denied it earlier on in the pregnancy despite having two kids to take care of and falling asleep and having fainting spells. I felt let down as they just prolonged the inevitable and am 37+2now so not enough time that it will help with delivery but hopefully will mean I can avoid a blood transfusion after birth.

Advocate for yourself louder than I did, emphasise the impact on both your physical and mental health. I would push it with your midwife and if you get refused again challenge them to explain their refusal, possible effects on you and baby.
