When ideally should I have my hospital bag packed by?

I'm only 25 weeks & I like to be prepared early- but when do you all recommend?

Thanks x

I'm 33 and a bit weeks and going to write a list this weekend and go shopping the week after when I've been paid (around 35 weeks) but I'm at risk of early baby due to medical condition... I suspect others might do it sooner? you can always get bits and put them to one side and if you need them last minute then pack when in early labour I guess!

Spinxsta · 09/08/2021 22:25

Whenever you want to pack it. Probably some point around 38 weeks.

I'm 36 weeks and have just started throwing some bits in a suitcase.

DS was born at 33 weeks and I didn't have a bag packed. It was fine. The ward had most things we needed and eventually DH went home and grabbed some PJs and toiletries. Then we bought some tiny baby clothes when he was out of NICU. It wasn't a problem at all. So I'm not too worried.

I’m 34 weeks and have just been given my c section date for 37 weeks so only 3 weeks away.

I plan on getting a few bits together this weekend. Need to make a list and buy some bits, but I’ll aim to have it packed by 36 weeks.

I’m 33ish weeks and intend to pack it over the next fortnight, I have to nip out and gets bits and bobs as and when I can be bothered. Things like large underwear and pads for myself mainly x

IslandLulu · 10/08/2021 00:25

I would pack at 34 weeks. Good luck OP. Smile

Pack when you like! Enjoy your first pregnancy and do it now if you like the idea. I can remember with my first I was getting things together really early! I’m currently 31 weeks and have had my bags packed since last week but I’m having growth scans and have been advised to expect early delivery due to the small size of baby. I love packing and have ordered two special bags one for me and one for baby this time. All ready to go :) xxxx

I’m 37w and planning on doing mine this weekend.

Sparrow91 · 10/08/2021 04:18

I was admitted when I was 26 weeks due to an infection, and the midwife recommended having a simple ‘overnight’ bag from 27 weeks just in case with some basics, and then getting the full hospital bag ready from about 34 weeks.

I’m now 37 weeks and only just got the hospital bag finished 😂

Wallywobbles · 10/08/2021 06:46

My first was 3 weeks early I'd only packed it that day so that was a bit of luck.

Amichelle84 · 10/08/2021 10:05

If it makes you feel better to do it early do it early.

I'm 34w and have written a list and packed a wash bag, I keep putting off the rest.

SouthwestSis · 10/08/2021 11:34

If your baby arrives before 32 weeks then it will not be coming home from hospital in a hurry so you've got plenty of weeks yet to get it sorted.

pinkmoon18 · 10/08/2021 11:38

34 weeks

Muma1992 · 10/08/2021 12:14

I gave birth at 35 weeks. I had almost packed everything, I was a bit stressed about the missing bits though as I was in hospital for a week without things I wanted
Get packed ASAP :)

Amz6219 · 10/08/2021 12:16

Pack whenever you want, you will go back through it and change it constantly anyway :) no harm is putting things to one side rather than properly packing

I am 30 weeks and have just dug out the list I had with my son and thinking of making a start

Merrz · 10/08/2021 14:04

I would make a start anytime. Even if you just get the bag looked out and start to put a few bits beside it.

MikeWozniaksGloriousTache · 10/08/2021 14:08

No harm in packing it whenever to be honest. I had an appointment at 36 weeks with midwife and she asked if I had it packed then. Glad I did as I ended up in hospital for a short time (unrelated to baby) last week and it came it handy for DP to grab when I was told I had a few days overnight stay lol.

SillyBry · 10/08/2021 14:48

I'm 36 weeks and have everything I need in the house... is it in a bag? Noooo! (Second pregnancy syndrome here...! LOL)
We're going to Wales for the weekend (when I will be nearly 37 weeks), so I have promised I will pack my hospital bag this week and have it in the car, just in case!
I would say buy what you are going to need in plenty of time... but if you pack it too early, you'll end up packing and unpacking it several times!

Thefaceofboe · 10/08/2021 15:02

I want to be fully packed by 35 weeks but saying that, I am having the baby at 37. If you pack too early you will forget what you’ve put in and end up re-packing multiple times.
