Hi all.

Today have noticed my feet have suddenly swollen like balloons and I've had to take my engagement ring off cos my hands are swollen too.

I feel fine in myself just really tired.

Shall I phone triage or shall I just wait till I see my mw on Tuesday?

I’d phone triage and see what they have to say. Good luck x

MrsSkylerWhite · 08/08/2021 20:42

Do phone for advice. Probably all fine but you don’t want to wake up at 3am and wish you had.

WallabyLullaby · 08/08/2021 20:44

Hands swelling could be a symptom of pre eclampsia, you need to get checked out

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 08/08/2021 20:47

You need to call.

Bimblesalong · 08/08/2021 21:06

Call. I had this at 37 weeks and was developing pre eclampsia. Delivery soon sorted it!
Good luck. 💐

northernmamax · 08/08/2021 21:18

@Bimblesalong did you have any other symptoms?

Is it too late to call for this sort of thing?? Do I call now or in the morning?!

OP posts:
ElizaDoolots · 08/08/2021 21:21

Definitely call now. It can be a sign of preeclampsia so best to get checked. Hope all okay.

happytoday73 · 08/08/2021 21:22

Call now, don't leave it till tomorrow

You are fine with lights? No headache?
Do you have a blood pressure machine you could use to see where at?

Either way they are likely to want to check you out, urine check etc

ElizaDoolots · 08/08/2021 21:22

Other symptoms I believe are headaches, vision problems and pain below your ribs.

nocoolnamesleft · 08/08/2021 21:25

Ring tonight. Could be pre eclampsia.

Bimblesalong · 08/08/2021 21:47

@northernmamax sorry for the delay. Very swollen ankles/ feet to the point I could only wear wellies. Very tired. Swollen hands. Nothing else. I foolishly left it a couple of days and was admitted as soon as I was checked and had a membrane sweep following some progesterone gel. My Bp was very high.

abbs1 · 08/08/2021 21:49

Please call labour ward now and get checked for pre eclampsia tonight hun. I had it and it can hit suddenly after being underlying for several days/weeks. Best to get checked and keep you and baby safe.

northernmamax · 08/08/2021 21:53

Just phoned them I'm going into triage now. I'll let you all know what happens thanks for all your advice xx

Houserenoqueen · 08/08/2021 22:07

Good luck! I also had this and was admitted for pre eclampsia

Bimblesalong · 08/08/2021 22:12

Take care. It was the right thing to do x

ElizaDoolots · 08/08/2021 22:41

Glad you’re going in. Hope all okay

northernmamax · 09/08/2021 07:12

Hey everyone just a quick update.

My BP was fine and no protein in urine. As I have no other symptoms they said I didn't need to be kept in although they are concerned about the swelling (literally have no ankle left anymore and my toes are like cocktail sausages🤣)

She's asked me to monitor it throughout the day and go back if anything gets worse or changes, woke up with a slight headache this morning not sure if that's due to lack of sleep.

Will see how I feel in an hour or so x

Oh that's good you've been checked out.

I was incredibly swollen with each of my previous pregnancies - by the evening my ankles, feet and hands were massive. I never had pre-eclampsia but it is disconcerting to see your body such a different size and shape!

The most swollen I have ever been was about 2-3 days after birth each time. It was painful to move due to the swelling and I really wasn't prepared for it!

abbs1 · 09/08/2021 08:55

@nothernmamax oh I'm glad you and baby are ok. If you get a bad headache and pain in your rib area please go straight back in. I had the worst headache thought my head was gonna explode and had pain in my ribs like someone was tightening a belt and punching me and it was pre eclampsia. Not to frighten you but just to keep an eye out if you get those symptoms.

Bimblesalong · 09/08/2021 09:05

That’s really good news. It’s brilliant after baby comes when you start to see your ankles and fingers properly again! The sensation of not walking around in what feels like plastic bags full of water is great when it goes!
