Almost 10 weeks pregnant and UTI - terrified

Hi,

I'm almost 10 weeks pregnant and in the last few hours I have developed symptoms of an UTI, which gradually got worse.

I called NHS 111 and the out of hours gp will call me back in the next two hours and give me an appointment.

I'm so terrified that this will cause me to have a miscarriage, as I know this happened to other women before :((((

Can anyone calm me down, please?

I had an early miscarriage at 4 weeks and 5 days in February (non uti related) and I'm terrified it will happen again.

I had a uti at around 8/9 weeks pregnant. They sent me for an early scan at epu to check all was well - from memory they wanted to check my kidneys were ok and the babies too.

Everything was absolutely fine, I was prescribed antibiotics for a week and luckily didn’t get another uti throughout the rest of my pregnancy. My DTs are now 3.5.

Good luck with your appointment 💐

I've had 3 UTI's throughout this pregnancy (31 weeks now) so I've had 3 courses of antibiotics and everything has been fine. UTI's are quite common in pregnancy, I never had one before this.

I’ve had UTIs all through this pregnancy and am at 28 weeks. It’s good to get on the antibiotics but don’t worry.

Oh my, honestly it's really common at this time, I was on and off antibiotics the whole pregnancy and had to have a catheter for 4 months during pregnancy both times and both babies absolutely fine. It really doesn't cause miscarriage, trust me my mum is a midwife and I am living proof you can be on antibiotics virtually your whole pregnancy (twice!) and 2 lovely healthy babies. I also had 2 miscarriages with my first 2 pregnancies and no water infections with those ones weirdly so it doesn't have any bearing. If if develops into a kidney infection late in pregnancy it can cause some problems for you though so be aware of that later on.

Honestly, if you get it treated you’ll be fine. I had 3 UTI’s before 12 weeks and ended up having a scan to make sure my kidneys were okay. It’s really common in pregnancy
