36 week growth scan measurements

Hello!
I had my 36 week growth scan today and just wanted to ask is or has anyone been in the same position?
Baby’s head is measuring 35 weeks and 3 days, the femur is 34 weeks and 4 days and stomach is 38 weeks and 2 days.
My consultant/the lady scanning me weren’t concerned (before you say if they were concerned neither should I be but I am slightly).
The last growth scan I had she was measuring bang on 32 weeks for head and femur but her stomach again was 2 weeks ahead.
I’m just concerned that the femur is nearly 2 weeks behind, the stomach is 2 weeks ahead and head is 4 days behind. Has anyone has measurements like this before and everything turned out fine? I’ve been stupid and read that a small femur can indicate problems. I have spoken to my midwife and consultant while I was there today and they weren’t bothered at all but I don’t know why it’s just worried me a little bit because baby was measuring bang on 32 weeks but now the legs have only grown 2 weeks worth rather than 4 weeks work and the head 4 days behind too.
Thanks in advance!

I don’t have any advice, but I’m currently having growth scans and it is really worrying to see different parts of the baby are at different stages! I’m only 31 weeks so hoping baby will even out by birth as it’s head looks huge at the moment compared to stomach etc and it has tiny legs Grin I would honestly just listen to your consultant and try not to stress if they don’t have any worries x

My first DC had one leg measuring shorter than the other, can't remember exact details as it was quite a few years ago but it did send me into a spin, the sonographer was quite blasé about it all and there were already concerns about the baby so I was really stressed out. Despite needing an induction and having a rubbish birth and being on the 2nd centile, DC1 is totally fine with all limbs in proportion and has reached all milestones etc.

You're reading too much into it.

The scans are not 100% accurate at measuring and not all humans have identical sized heads / legs / tummies.

What you're describing are tiny little differences from "the norm" which you won't be able to notice once you have the baby in your arms.

If there was a problem they'd talk to you about it.

nutellamagnet · 06/08/2021 18:51

also just re read. You're worried about a small femur and congenital disorders based on a measurement being two weeks behind?

Meant kindly, you're going to find the next few months very difficult if you allow your mind to linger on the small stuff.

I would give the department a call and ask them to explain the scan results again. I am sure they will reassure you if there is nothing to worry about. At my 36 week scan my son's stomach was in the 80th percentile, his femur 25th and his head was so small it was not on the chart. He is perfectly fine. I rang the department the following day and asked for another consultant to explain the results to me as I was too upset during the scan to understand what this meant. The consultant reassured me not to worry - babies come in all shapes and sizes and the measurements arent exact as baby's position can make it difficult to measure. Hope someone is able to reassure you too.

Thanks everyone for the advice and sharing your stories it means a lot and does put my mind at rest!
@nutellamagnet yeah I am looking into ‘too much’ maybe but I was only asking about people’s stories also that have been in a similar situation, I suffer terribly with anxiety and the last few months I have been doing great but like you said the last ‘weeks’ will be tough, this whole pregnancy has been super tough but I’ve dealt with it and here I am 4 weeks away from meeting my baby but I just wanted to ask and I’m not going to be the first person to worry about something like this and I won’t be the last. Thank you though :)

Measurements at this late in pregnancy can be up to 20% out. My latest scan has said my babies femur has shrunk from 8 weeks ago Hmm. The later in pregnancy the less accurate they get so don't worry.

Amichelle84 · 06/08/2021 19:36

I was told at my last scan that the bellies are usually bigger as that's where the most fat is stored.

Alldayeveryday20 · 06/08/2021 19:53

Thank you guys! Definitely put my mind at ease and know it’s normal, thank you means a lot!

@Alldayeveryday20 did anything come of this with your baby? I had a few growth scans (last one was at 36 + 1, am now 38 + 5). The measurements were all over the place. Head was under the 5th percentile. Abdomen seemed weeks ahead and femur was also very small under the 5th. Consultant mentioned the head being small but nothing about the other measurements. She's following the 10th percentile overall.
