Hello everyone I just got back from a nearly 32 week check up and she said our baby has gone from slightly above the scale of growth to now slightly under so he's growth has slowed down I was ring within 10 mins of leaving the doctors to have a scan done within 72 hours as they said this is procedure when baby's growth has gone slightly off scale it's got my partner and I very concerned and I must say my midwife seemed a little different this time has anyone else experienced an urgent scan for this?

Hello! Totally understand the fear.

If it helps I had an "unusually large baby" to a baby that "wasn't growing" within the space of a fortnight and was rushed in for several scans. Turns out she was a completely average sized baby when she was born!!!

They do have growth spurts and sluggish weeks and if the midwife is determining this growth rate by measuring the bump it's not entirely accurate as it depends on the way the baby is lying.

Usual procedure- monitor movements and if you're at all worried then contact the maternity unit ASAP. They would rather see you and for everything to be fine than for you to be worrying at home.

Hi OP, I had something similar. DS's growth started to slow down towards the end of the third trimester. Drs thought my placenta might be giving out early. I was monitored quite heavily and induced at 37 weeks. DS was little but healthy and strong.

It was super stressful at the time, but I am so so glad it was picked up and we got the help we needed. We would likely have been fine without intervention, but there's a small chance we would not have been.

It sounds like the midwife didn't handle the communication side too well and has stressed you out with the "within 10 minutes", "within 72 hours" stuff. When things go from all okay to urgent scans it is really stressful. I remember crying all the way home when it happened to me.

I know easier said that done, but try not to worry. The scans are just to give a clearer picture of whether you and baby could use some extra help. Hopefully there's nothing wrong, but if there is then it's better that it's been picked up now.

Good luck Thanks
