Pregnancy after loss

LadyBird2020 · 02/08/2021 09:01

Hi,
I found out I'm pregnant, currently 4 weeks after a year of trying after 2 early miscarriages.
As you can imagine, my anxiety is through the roof.
Before I knew I was pregnant my sense a smell was slightly heightened. I could smell the candle in the living room every now and again and I was visiting the bathroom more regularly.
However in the last day or so, I feel like I haven't been to the loo so much (could be i am drinking less) & I haven't been smelling the candle so much.
Sounds absolutely ridiculous as I am writing this but I guess that's what happens when you haven't had a successful pregnancy so far.
My question is, do symptoms come and go. Do you notice them some time and not others??
I haven't had any pain or bleeding and as I said, very early on. So probably other thinking everything but wondered what your experiences are? X

I didn’t feel pregnant at all at 4 weeks, in fact it’s only the last 5 days that I’ve started with real morning sickness (I’m talking barfing as well as general all day nausea). Your symptoms should really start to kick in in the next 3/4 weeks, although not every woman gets the same symptoms or same degree of symptoms, so try not to worry. Have you considered booking a private early scan? Most can be done from 6 weeks and might help to reassure you a bit. Best of luck and congratulations on your pregnancy x

RainbowSoph35 · 02/08/2021 10:53

@LadyBird2020
Firstly congratulations on your BFP.
I am im exactly the same boat. Im 5+2 after trying for a year and 2 early miscarriages so can completely understand your anxiety.
I have read that your symptoms can come and go alot in the first few weeks and even after then.
My gp told me to try not to worry unless you have alot of pain or bleeding.
I have been trying to stay positive but its so difficult but the odds are in our favour as we are more likely to have a healthy pregnancy than another miscarriage 🤞🌈
Due to your previous losses have you asked your Gp about an early reassurance scan?
My GP has been amazing and after my second loss he referred me for tests, the consultant put me on 75mg Asprin straight away and booked me some tests but ive fallen before i even had the tests.
I read alot about Progesterone helping after reacurrent miscarriages so i spoke to my Consultant and GP and im now on that too and ive got a scan in 2 weeks.
Hope this helps. Hang in there 💐

LadyBird2020 · 02/08/2021 11:05

@RainbowSoph35 thank you! & congratulations on your BFP too!
I did call my GP as soon as I found out but they needed instruction from the consultant I had seen for tests after the miscarriages. He was on leave last week (typical) so I am waiting to hear from him today to arrange a 6 week scan and I also want to start progesterone.
The GP told me the NHS usually only prescribe progesterone after 3 miscarriages but I am happy to go private if it means I can get it. I've read good things from the trials run by Tommy's charity.
The last two pregnancies that ended in a miscarriage, I had such a bad lower back ache and abdominal pain, it almost felt like a ring around my body which I haven't had so far so hoping it is third time lucky.
I'm sorry to hear about your losses. I really hope this time is our time and we get our rainbow babies 🌈 x

@babymuffinxo thank you for your message and congratulations. How far gone are you now?
That is reassuring to know. I think it's because I have been looking out for the signs, I then panic when I haven't felt them for a day or too. I guess most people don't even know they are pregnant at this stage.
I am awaiting a call back from the consultant today to arrange an early scan but he was off last week and I tried every which way to get something booked in sooner but have to wait for him to instruct it. So giving them til lunchtime and will follow up if I haven't heard anything.
I think a scan will help but the thought of it also scares me x

I’m 7+5 at the moment, I’ve had 2 early scans via EPU as this is my first pregnancy following ectopic in December last year and then a private scan on Saturday just gone for DH to be able to see as every time I’ve been into hospital he’s not been allowed to come. Mine came and went every couple of days until I hit 6 and a half weeks, they’ve been pretty consistent since then although the level of soreness in my boobs changes quite a lot. It’s so normal to be worried, I completely get where you’re coming from. Hopefully that scan will help put you at ease even if only a little bit xx

Pompom2367 · 02/08/2021 11:36

Op mg symptoms have come and gone and I had cramping currently 20 weeks pregnant we had previous loss and I totally understand the anxiety it's so hard to relax and enjoy being pregnant

LadyBird2020 · 02/08/2021 11:36

@babymuffinxo I'm sorry to hear of your loss previously.
Who knew getting pregnant and having a baby would be so stressful.
That is reassuring to know, thank you for taking the time to respond.
It is horrible that partners can't attend the scans. That's another thing that worries me. Going in alone and getting bad news. I know what I'm looking at this time and what should and shouldn't be there.
Keeping everything crossed though and hopefully this one will work out! 🤞🏼 x

@Pompom2367 thank you for your message. It is reassuring to hear your experience and that you have a healthy pregnancy. Congratulations and I'm sorry to hear of your previous loss.
I will try to remain positive. It is hard working from home with no distractions. X

@LadyBird2020
Thankyou... i hope its 3rd time lucky for us both too.
Fingers crossed your consultant perscribes the progesterone for you. Im 35 so not sure if that helped sway it.
I too havent had many symptoms. My boobs hurt every so often and have definitely grown.
I have also had some mild cramping and Streching feelings which the lady at EpAU who booked my scan said is normal.
Fingers crossed for us both 🤞 x

Pompom2367 · 02/08/2021 11:55

@LadyBird2020 thank you op I totally understand I work from home too and feel the first 12 weeks I totally disengaged but you will always worry you just have to take it day by day op fingers and toes crossed xx

LadyBird2020 · 02/08/2021 12:04

@RainbowSoph35 I am 31, will be 32 in Feb. I really hope I can get progesterone. I think it will ease my worries a little, knowing there is that extra little help there.
I am on baby aspirin too, which my consultant told me to take as soon as I found out I was pregnant.
Willing to try anything!
I have thought I've had symptoms so many months and had my period that I am not quite sure what is 'normal' for me anymore. My boobs may be ever so slightly more plump but nothing very noticeable.
I hope you get on ok at your scan! Wishing you all the best. Please let me know how you get on xxx

@RainbowSoph35 can I just ask, did you have to have a blood test before you were prescribed progesterone?

OP posts:
RainbowSoph35 · 02/08/2021 14:11

@LadyBird2020
No i didnt have to have a blood test. My consultant just sent a letter to my Gp and he perscribed it the same day. Taking that and the asprin kind of makes me feel like im doing everything i can to help my body.
I will definitely keep you updated and you keep me updated too.
I have my scan on 11th Aug and im terrified if im honest. Who knew this could be such an emotional roller coaster. X

LadyBird2020 · 02/08/2021 14:21

@RainbowSoph35 thank you!
My consultant is working privately today and said he would want me to have a blood test before he prescribes progesterone. The blood test might need to be repeated in 48 hours.
They have availability for tomorrow but I go away on Thursday which could cause an issue if it needs to be repeated.
Not sure what he would say once he has his NHS hat back on.
Waiting to hear back to see if I can go private tomorrow and late Wednesday if it needs repeating.
I feel the same. I was saying to my boyfriend at lunch, that if I can take progesterone, along with the baby aspirin, folic acid and Vit D. I don't drink or smoke etc, I am doing everything I possibly can for this pregnancy/ baby. Just frustrating they are making it so difficult to get in the first place.
I heard from the EPU and they have booked me in for the 16th August which will be exactly 6 weeks.
It really is such an emotional rollercoaster. Then throw in what we have experienced it makes it all much worse.
Saying that; it will all be worth it when we get to hold our babies.
Xx

@LadyBird2020
Oh fingers crossed he can fit you in.
I guess he wants to check your levels before prescribing.
Also great news about your scan 🤗 hopefully they can give us both some sort of reassurance for a while anyway.
Yes i said the said to my Hubby about doing everything i can, im also taking Folic acod and Vitamin D, ive alos cut out caffenine except 1 cup of tea first thing.We cant really do much more than hope and pray and keep everything crossed.
I know, your never really told all this. Its always, try for a baby, have a healthy baby happy ending.
But i couldnt agree with you more. It will be worth every second once we hold our little ones 🤞💕 X

LadyBird2020 · 02/08/2021 15:12

@RainbowSoph35 I went out and got some decaf tea bags, so I can get through the working day easier. Ha
We definitely can't do anymore.
I will keep you updated and good luck Kent you baby journey xx

Each pregnancy is different, some you can have barely any symptoms and others can be horrendous.

I'm on pregnancy 10 to pass 6wk, 5th to do well. Our older children I didn't have it too bad in the 1st trimester, even the twins. I had my most recent mc in July last year, felt pretty normal in that pregnancy with barely any symptoms. Had an early scan which showed a heartbeat but started spotting 4 days later and passed baby a few days later. This pregnancy I had extreme fatigue and constant nausea (I was convinced it must be twins but just 1), still managed to plod on and do workouts but it was rough. I've worried every single day but got my elcs a week tomorrow so the end is in sight now. I feel like I've waited forever to meet this little girl. As heartbreaking as all the losses have been, getting to hold a newborn makes it all worth it.

Congratulations and good luck.

LadyBird2020 · 02/08/2021 19:52

@Chelyanne thank you!
It is true, every pregnancy is different. As you said with your MC you had no symptoms. With mine I felt more then than I do now.
It is just so hard to switch off.
I'm so sorry to hear of your losses and so happy you can finally welcome your little girl into the world soon 💕 x

Hi ladies hope i can join 😁
Found out in sat that im pregnant super excited but terrified at the same time.
I fell this time 2 years ago but miscarried at 5.5 weeks but didnt find out until i was 8 weeks when i went for a private scan 😔 been trying ever since and its taken us this long just as we started to have fertility investigations 🤦🏼‍♀️
From what I can work out I'm 5 weeks 4days really praying this is our rainbow.
Four month beforw i fell in 2019 i had a massive op to remove a fibroid whichbwas quite big and op was quite intrusive so im hoping that now my body is fully recovered and can handle the changes and grow a baby successfully 🙏

LadyBird2020 · 03/08/2021 05:56

@Kaylab2489 congratulations! I'm sorry to hear of your previous loss. Hopefully now is your time.
It is such a worrying time. I wish I had the answers on how to stay calm.
I am sure all the stress and worry will be worth it when we get to hold our rainbow babies. 🌈
How are you feeling at the minute?x

Kaylab2489 · 03/08/2021 06:16

@LadyBird2020
Ahhh thankyou 🙏😁
Just feeling very tired at the min. Cramps/twinges here and there. Keep going hot and cold also 🤔 my docs have referred me to EPU so just waiting for that to come through hopefully it doesnt make my anxiety worse 🤦🏼‍♀️x
How are you doing x

LadyBird2020 · 03/08/2021 06:20

@Kaylab2489 I have been feeling tired too but don't know if that's where my brain is in overdrive constantly. 🤣 then waking up earlier than usual and not being able to get back to sleep.
Have a slight sicky feeling first thing in the morning. But otherwise feeling fine. Apparently symptoms usually kick in around 6 weeks.
I have blood tests today and an early scan on the 16th so keeping everything crossed. x
