Hi everyone, I was just wondering, at what point are you supposed to stop taking your vitamins? Is it at exactly 12 weeks or did everyone wait til their first scan or..? I'm a bit unsure, my scan is next Thursday and I'll be 12 weeks +5 and in all honesty, I've not had the best pregnancy so far and I'm sure they make me feel more crappy!

TIA

I don't know, I just assumed you had to take them the whole pregnancy? I'm taking the Zita West ones, they come in 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester formulations

I’m 32 weeks and still taking my folic acid and vitamin d. Carried on taking it through all of my pregnancies.

Folic acid until 12 weeks and vitamin D all the way through and continue it postnatally if you're breast feeding.

If you're on pregnacare which are massive and they've making you feel sick you can just get a separate vit D which are tiny.

Aquamarine1029 · 23/07/2021 20:30

I took mine all the way through and when I was breastfeeding.

I am, do you take them and the pregnacare together or should I stop that one? I've tried getting in touch with my midwife but not joy unfortunately.

Thanks everyone

Ivf clinic advised folic acid and vitamin d tablets 3 months before pregnancy and to take all the way through pregnancy I started pregnacare at around 10 weeks for the other vitamins aswell but had to take them at night before sleep as they do make me sickly if my stomach isn't super full.

Pregnacare made me feel even more terrible than I already was, I only took them for a few days then stopped when I put two and two together with significant worsening of my nausea and sickness! If you have a well balanced diet you don't really need a multivitamin, just vitamin D on its own is recommended throughout pregnancy. You can buy it at any pharmacy, own brand is fine, and you can stop folic acid after 12 weeks - there is no evidence continuing taking it will give any additional benefit. If you want to take a multivitamin you could try a supermarket own brand pregnancy one - I think Tesco do one. Much cheaper and some people tolerate them better than pregnacare I think.

When I found out I was pregnant with my first, I switched to the Pregnacare Plus Omega- 3 and took it right through. Am also currently taking them. You must take them on a full stomach otherwise they can make you feel nauseous.

Sunflowerx · 23/07/2021 23:05

Pregnacare made me feel really sick so I stopped taking it around 20 weeks and have just took vitamin d ever since then. I have the nicest gummy ones that are peppa pig for kids but are the recommended dose needed!

Juicytoot287 · 24/07/2021 11:12

I take the seven seas multi vits, i find them easier than pregnacare. Still huge but not as sicky and a bit cheaper. They are for all the way through too. I like taking them so I know I am getting enough vitamins regardless of if i have a bad day etc. :)

@MyDogIsCool I don't really get what you mean?

Pregnacare is a multivitamin with folic acid.

If pregnacare is making you feel sick, and you're past 12 weeks meaning you don't need the folic acid anymore, then stop taking pregnacare and get a separate Vit D tablet and take this through your whole pregnancy and postnatally if BF'ing.

A separate Vit D tablet is very small and doesn't have a taste so it won't make you feel sick.
