Hi,
I've just turned 8 weeks pregnant, I'm 25 and double vaccinated but I am still really really really nervous about going places while the pandemic is still about! I live in Wales so our laws are still stricter than other countries in the United Kingdom which is good. However, me and my fiancée have a trip booked to Edinburgh, Scotland in a few weeks (I will be about 10 weeks then), trip is supposed to be a relaxing break and to try and help pregnancy mental health effects but I'm so nervous about going and keeping myself and my unborn safe especially while I'm not yet past 12 weeks! Had anyone had a simple experience or anxiety and do you have any tips on how to deal with this? Thank you

I am further along at 26 weeks. I totally get your anxiety. I haven't had the vaccine yet and plan to wait until after baby is born now . As you are vaccinated you should have some more protection. Just stick to wearing a mask, sanitise and distance as much as possible. When out avoid large , crowded places .

Congratulations on your pregnancy!
It's a strange world we are living in at the moment & it's normal to feel protective of your baby.
I got pregnant in March 2020 when everything shut down the 1st time then gave birth on the 1st day of the last lockdown in January. My husband worked throughout & daughter continued going to nursery.
I am in no way minimising your feelings but try to think of the fact that thousands of babies have been cooked & born in the last 18 months, when vaccines weren't available & things were at times petrifying.
Try to enjoy your experiences whilst it's still just you & your partner before baby arrives 😊 if it makes you feel better keep wearing your mask & sanitising - you can't do anymore than that! 😊

Yep, double jabbed and 36 weeks - I’ve been scared the entire pregnancy and probably more so now I’m near the end. I would advise you get a referral to the perinatal mental health team so they can help you with your anxieties. Although your anxieties are completely justified, you can feel better about them and safer.

I went on a little getaway when I was about 19 weeks and I was also incredibly nervous. I too a big pack of clinell wipes with me a disinfected everything In the room that I was staying in and felt as long as I kept my distance from people I could enjoy myself

I hope you manage to have a good time! Xx

You've done what you can by getting double jabbed and the trip is already booked now - so just try to enjoy spending time with your other half in a nice change of scene.

If you are still anxious when there, try to avoid crowded indoor places (so maybe limit any indoor sightseeing this visit?), wear a mask in indoor public areas when not eating and wash/sanitise your hands regularly as pp suggest.

I can definitely relate re: anxiety as I am 5+4 and have just finished my 10 days isolation after contracting covid!!
Spoke to the GP who said there is little evidence it can affect baby but anxiety will. Just get your jabs and don’t worry too much. Just take your normal precautions.
