Am I going to misscarry? 5 +4

Hi all,

I'm making myself really upset with anxiety and just want to know what's normal.

This is my first pregnancy (found out last week) and I think I'm around 5 +4 days. The week I found I out I was constipated (didn't have a pop for 2-3 days). I've been having bran flakes but haven't done anything majorly different to try and fix it, now today I have loose poos and have used the bathroom 3 times already today.

As my constipation has well and truly gone away is this a sudden loss of pregnancy symptoms and am I going to have a misscarriage?

I still have some boobs and some mild one-off cramping which I have had the past week. No sickness/nausea or anything else though.

Please help. Thank you in advance.

I really wouldn’t worry about losing your constipation. This is gross, but I’m just telling you in the hope that it might help calm you. I get constipation when pregnant (and am doing now) but when I do manage to go things are pretty soft Confused and I can go a good few times in a short space of time. You’re early in your pregnancy and this is the time when symptoms fluctuate. Try and take it easy, I know this is a lot easier said than down - I too, am a major worrier!

Heya, at five weeks you've not really entered the big symptoms yet, which peak at 9 weeks. Constipation can be non-pregnancy related too - and the fact you're anxious is probably making it worse. I really would try to not focus on symptom checking, as if you're pregnant you're pregnant!
Have you thought about a private scan? They're about £59 from 6-7 weeks, that's what I did. Xx

Thank you for the reassurance! I really wish I could stop worrying and just be excited but I feel like I've heard too many horror stories and just can't relax... I think I will get a 6/7 week scan for reassurance!!

Hey OP, I know it can be really hard but it might be better to wait until 8 weeks for a scan. Before that often people get very stressed if they can’t see what they expect to. By around 8 weeks you might be able to see a heartbeat, and that’s a really nice reassuring feeling.
I have had constipation on and off throughout my pregnancy so far (I’m 22 weeks). Once the constipation is over the opposite usually appears! I also had the odd cramp all through the 1st trimester and a little into the 2nd. You’re probably ok.

No, it’s hormones can change your bowel movements in the blink of an eye, and as a pregnant woman you’ll be full of hormones. It’s completely normal, you’ve been eating lots of fibre which will contribute to the change too. Keep very well hydrated to try and avoid piles!

Stressing about symptoms and stress in general will not help though. Stress can cause loss, not saying it to scare you but it’s worth mentioning, because worrying about every little niggle and every symptom that comes and goes will just make you spiral into uncontrollable worry.

My pregnancy had absolutely zero symptoms, no loss. Many people have a MMC and their symptoms continue.

If it will out your mind at ease I would book an early private scan from 7/8 weeks, you’ll be able to see a heartbeat by then and it will be a huge weight lifted.

Congratulations and good luck! Flowers
