36+2 but baby measuring 34 weeks

I'm just looking some advice really.

I went to my 34 week midwife appointment 2 weeks ago where they sent me off for an emergency growth scan. Baby was measuring 31 weeks from the belly tape. When I got to hospital I had my scan and turns out babys tummy hadnt grown from 29 weeks. He was weighing 4lbs 9. Everything else looked bang on and all his little organs etc where functioning amazingly. They then said they wanted to see me two weeks later.

Fast forward to my next scan which was yesterday and now they are saying he hasnt grown at all his fundal height is measuring 34 weeks and so is his tummy but hes weighing 5lbs 2 which is great as he seems to have put on weight. So they now want to see me in another 2 weeks for another growth scan. I'm beside myself with worry, I am a small girl myself I'm 4ft 11 and my bump throughout has been on the tiny side. I have all things running through my head right now. I just dont want him struggling in there and having to wait another 2 weeks to see he hasnt made any progress. I'm more so looking for positive outcomes than anything.

Sorry for the long post x

Hi op. Whilst I haven’t been though this (yet) we’ve been given extra growth scans due to low Papp-a so I’ve been imagining what we will do if we get the same news. I think there are lots of positives to take from your situation: he is growing at his own rate and the fact the doctors and midwives don’t want to deliver him now must mean they’re confident he’s happy and healthy. You’ve also said you’re 4ft 11 so possibly unlikely to have a 10lb baby without a medical reason! I’d keep an eye kn movements and if any concerns go straight in. Easy for me to say but hopefully the next two weeks will fly by and if he’s still now growing much in a fortnight you could ask what options you have to deliver then? Good luck xx

I had a similar thing happen when I was pregnant with my son. They told me I was constantly measuring small, was behind a few weeks with the measurements too. They also said my son was only around 5lb4oz and he'd be really small etc. They weren't too concerned as they said there was enough fluid around him etc. My son was born healthy and 6lb12oz. And that was only under a week after them saying he was only the smaller weight. I'm not short but I had a tiny bump and they were all worried but everything was fine. I've heard from other mums that the weights they tell you through the scan weren't accurate for them either. Try not to worry

Same here, OP. I have 2 healthy DS - they were both very small babies. Constant scans in the build-up and monitoring as I didn't want to be induced. Had a really good foetal medicine consultant that told me it looked like "I'm just fated to have small babies.." I'm very slim myself (and so is my partner) and also myself and my siblings were small babies..

Try not to stress, as hard as it is - I know! And definitely keep an eye on regular movements. Best of luck to you and your baby! xx

Use are all gems ♡ I've been so worried I got myself into such a state lastnight. Hes moving perfect and hes 3/5 engaged whatever that means lol. Thank use all so so much, you have all reassured me this afternoon. Suppose I may take it as a plus as I get to see him more with being scanned every 2 weeks. Love to you all xxx

Same with me as I'm only 4"11 and had all my babies small. Consultant said I'm small so hence my babies will be small(ds1-6lb2oz ds2-6lb3oz and ds3 6lb7oz) all born 39+. Expecting the same this time as I'm 18w.
