TMI warning- painful bowel movements

Hi all,

I'm 28+4 with my first and am finding that everytime I need to poo I get cramping beforehand, almost like a period pain.

I had a really bad bout of gastroenteritis at 23 weeks which was the first time I had it. After a week or so it went away but came back about a week ago despite not being unwell this time.

It keeps putting me on edge as I worry it's premature labour starting!

Just wondering if anyone else had experienced this?

You poor thing. Sounds rotten. I always had to drink prune juice through my pregnancies. If I were you I'd make sure that you can go comfortably as being constipated can give you tummy cramps. If I'm a bit backed up then I will get really bad pain which needs labour breathing to get through! If you're worried about prem labour then call the midwife as its better to be safe then sorry. They won't mind. I hope you get some relief soon.

Ouch! Are you constipated?

It's definitely not pre term labour as waters haven't gone and it really is only when I open my bowels, nothing in between.

The weird thing is I'm not constipated! Have been a lot at times in this pregnancy but not now.

I'm beginning to wonder if it is just something left over from my gastroenteritis 🤷‍♀️. Midwife was not at all concerned when I mentioned it although couldn't explain it at all!
