Can someone share any experiences of midwife led care in Portland or Kensington? Are NICU costs at Portland included?

If you have a serious issue at the Portland you will be moved to an NHS hospital as far as I know (so I wouldn't choose to go there) which I guess means NICU costs would be covered by the NHS.

The Portland does have a NICU so it is worth confirming how the charging works. I doubt it’s included (everything extra is charged for with private, in my experience).

At the Kensington Wing, assuming you and/or the baby qualify, you can switch to NHS if you need to (and would do if SCBU/NICU was required).

I had two great experiences at the Kensington Wing but I was consultant led so not quite what you are asking about. I did ask for their private post-natal midwife care package, which effectively replaces the first few HV visits, but they said they couldn’t accommodate, I think due to distance from the hospital.

Good to know @Grimbelina @NakedAttraction! I will check charging of Portland NICU but indeed prefer a private wing in NHS hospital so if care for baby is needed we can have it immediately.

Anyone who has experience with midwifery care in one of those hospitals? Would be great to hear!
