Hi all. So I have a wedding to go to begining of August and ideally I would like to get my hair done. I've got a few Grey's coming through so Im thinking highlights?

However I'm not even sure if you should get your hair dyed while pregnant, especially in first trimester?

Any advice? Xxx

It's safe to dye hair in pregnancy. Highlights are good too as they don't touch the scalp

Yes its safe

All I can say is I did. They are strapping teenagers now.

I also feel that if there was enough scientific evidence to say it was not to be advised there would be restrictions on it.

3rd point to make is highlights in theory don't make contact with your skin in the same way as a root colour, when done properly.

I can't say I've ever been able to smell the hair dye in a proper salon but some do ammonia free or fragrance free on request too. I'd only be concerned about any at home colour, I've nearly gassed myself with that stuff!

I had highlights in the first trimester, was a lovely treat! I’ve also dyed my hair various pinks and lilacs in the last few months, I use a vegetable based wash out dye so non damaging.

I asked my consultant obstetrician and her answer was "no one really knows"

Perfectly fine. Make sure you have all patch testing done prior as you can react differently due to hormones.
