HCG rise more than doubling

Hello everyone Smile

I am in my 4-5 week of pregnancy and my HCG level went from 172 U/L to 3515 U/L which is an increase of 20 rather than 2. I did the tests two days apart as they should be done. I also had an ultrasound which suggests a single baby, I saw the gestational sack, so no twins. Has anyone had such a massive rise in HCG? I am really very worried...

Congratulations on your news.

Are you sure of your dates? I have been pregnant many times and have many losses. They will not scan before 7 weeks here as a rule, although I have heard of other areas 6 weeks. A 4-5 week scan would not be possible here anyway. It could mean more than one as far to early to tell?

19-7500ish is within normal range at five weeks, so that's ok.

I did the scan early to eliminate the chance of ectopic pregnancy. The sonographer said it is definitely not an ectopic but too early to hear a heartbeat. I am just worried that the rate of increase is too huge. It went from 172 to 3515 in two days.

Did you get onslaught of pregnancy symptoms?

minipeanut · 09/07/2021 22:15

Twins?

Nade257 · 10/07/2021 17:48

I have sore breast and increased urination but no nausea. It is definitely not twins, I had an ultrasound which said single baby.

I suppose the worry is a molar pregnancy but presumably too early to tell. Fingers crossed it isn’t that though and just a v healthy pregnancy.

Nade257 · 11/07/2021 14:47

Yep, I am worried about a molar pregnancy or other complications.

To update you all. I called the hospital to ask if there has been a mistake because the values are ridiculous and they said YES. They had indeed made an error and my increase is by a factor of two as is normal and expected. Moral of the story - double check anything that is odd/scary.

I’m really relieved for you. Fingers crossed for a smooth ride from here!
