Hi ladies, husband and I are hoping to start trying for DC2, but I'm still breastfeeding 9 month old.
Periods returned at 7 months PP, but worried that it will be difficult to conceive while I'm still feeding. Does anyone have any experience with this?! Would love to hear some stories to hopefully put my mind at ease!

I was still feeding my 9mo DS and decided to try for DC2. Two and a half weeks later I got a BFP (periods came back at 4 months and at that time I was 41.

Then I was still feeding my then-10mo DD and my husband and I threw caution to the wind one night after a few drinks. Two and a half weeks later I got a BFP (again period came back at 4 months and I was 42. DC3 is due in Dec).

So yes, it can happen!

Yes. I am bf 14mo and got a surprise positive test on Monday.

Had DC2 a few months back. Was still being DC1 day and night when I got my bfp. Good luck.

I'm currently 38 weeks pregnant with a dc conceived while breastfeeding my 18 month old DS.

Thankfully DH and I did want another baby although after many years of trying for DS never thought it would happen so quickly.

My periods hadn't returned yet when I conceived, so I'd say you have a pretty good chance if your periods have returned presumably you're ovulating so you can try and track that.

I did find it difficult to breastfeed through the breast pain in the first trimester and DS stopped caring about it much around my 20 week scan so he stopped feeding around that time. I do miss feeding him and am looking forward to feeding another baby in a few weeks, so I'd prepare yourself a little for your DC to loose interest in breastfeeding or to tandem feed.

Yes I got pregnant the first month of TTC whilst still BF'ing my 10 month old! I was so surprised as we were aiming for a 2 Yr gap and ended up with 18 months!

I got pregnant when DD was about 10 months old and still breastfeeding a lot. Had a miscarriage but then was pregnant again by the time she was 15 months or so (still breastfeeding).

I think if your periods have returned you'll likely be able to concieve

I was conceived when my sister was 3 months old and my mother was still breastfeeding without having had a period.

First time I was breastfeeding we were trying for DC2 and it didn't happen.

When breastfeeding DC2, I assumed I didn't need contraception.

DC3 currently making his (miniscule) presence felt. Grin

Currently 13 weeks pregnant and BF my 18 month old! Fell pregnant before even having a period after DS ( and needed IVF to conceive him! )

WoMandalorian · 09/07/2021 12:43

I was breastfeeding my first when I became pregnant with my second, and was breastfeeding my second when I became pregnant with my 3rd so it's definitely not a good form of contraception 😅
I think breastfeeding is more about putting you off sex rather than being a contraceptive. I was not interested at all for at least the first year!

Rachel Riley of Countdown is still breastfeeding her daughter (born December 2019) and is pregnant with her second child.
