41 + 4 week pregnant... want to avoid induction!

Hi all!

Just looking for advice or similar experiences really. I'm 41 + 4 weeks pregnant with DD2. My cervix has been 2cm- 3cm dilated for weeks, fully effaced and head has been engaged since about 36 weeks.... but - still pregnant! I've also been having on and off contractions and little twinges for almost a month 😩

I've been booked for an induction on Friday where they're hoping to break my waters to get things moving.

Is there any way of trying to get labour going before then? I feel like I've tried everything and would love to go into labour spontaneously but also am aware of the risks post 42 weeks of pregnancy.

With DD1 I went into labour after a sweep at 40 + 5, but I've had two sweeps now and still no baby! Just feeling a bit deflated as all the people I was pregnant with have now had their babies but mine doesn't want to budge!

Have you tried:

  • Bouncing on an exercise ball
  • Sex
  • Spicy curry
  • Lots of pineapple
  • Baths
  • Lots of walking

I know it's uncomfortable and the last thing you want to do, but walk - as long as you can, as far as you can, even just laps round the block.

I tried - curry, pineapple, sex, gym ball, all of it and nothing worked for me. Walking will help baby's head and your cervix, I've got everything crossed for you!

Breaking your waters might do it drug free, it kicked things off immediately for me.

Might be uncomfortable but walking up and down the stairs

Thanks ladies! Lost mucus plug last night and this morning and have been having on/off mild contractions ever since! Hopefully things are beginning

You don't have to agree to the induction if it's not what you want.

Fingers crossed things progress for you :)

Great news!
Good luck!

I tried all the things they say hello and nothing happened! I got my waters broken at 41+4 and went into labour straight away. I found that labour much easier than my spontaneous labour so don't be too worried about induction. Good luck!

Hey all!

Well I had my baby girl today (7/7/21) at 11:50pm. Weighing 8 Ibs 2 - and super quick labour! Came into the birthing centre at 8:30pm!

Thanks for all your advice and encouragement!
