Sustainable/ethical pregnancy pillow?

Hi everyone,

I am on the hunt for a pregnancy pillow, but I normally only buy items which are sustainably and ethically produced (when I buy clothes, bedding, etc.). I can't seem to find anything like that, except maybe bbhugme? (Which is soo expensive.)

I am also open to buying 2nd hand for this reason, but I have been really struggling to find websites that sell pre-loved pregnancy pillows. It seems to be very rare on sites like gumtree and ebay, and barely makes a difference in cost too!

Does anyone have any good advice here?

I never bought one, just used regular pillows. I couldn’t bring myself to buy something that I’d only use for a few months.

I think that's a great option! But I only own 2 regular pillows (and a sofa cushion?) so some sort of addition is necessary... and I was thinking it could double as nursing pillow potentially? Plus I might try and sell it again / pass it on afterward.

I think a part of being ethical is buying something good quality that you can use for years and years and not throw away. I bought a theraline. No idea if the materials are ethical (I doubt they are, actually) but it got me through a difficult pregnancy and recovery, I used it as a breastfeeding pillow and I'm now still using it 4 years later for 2nd pregnancy and it'll be used as feeding pillow and I use it in bed every night anyway. So comfortable, well made and I will use it until it breaks. The covers are washable.

Let us know if you find anything, @AnonymousXXIX. I'm not at the stage of looking yet.

Still using my bbhugme 2.5 years later FWIW, have absolutely no intention of stopping (it comes on holiday with me 😬)… it’s just that good!!

Whether one needs a pregnancy pillow largely depends on one's natural sleeping position. To me (and many others it seems!) sleeping on the left side is completely unnatural and uncomfortable, and the only way to force myself into it is by surrounding myself with a giant pregnancy pillow that at least means I'm tilted when I inevitably flip to my back 2 secs after falling asleep!
I didn't see any advertised as sustainable when I was shopping for one though I'm afraid ... I agree that getting something you can reuse or pass on is probably the best bet! Mine comes without a pillow case so I couldn't pass it onto anyone else :(

@Elginite haha this explains why I can't find anyone selling bbhugme!
@Iris2020 I sleep on my back normally (so nervous about this), plus I have back issues, so I am pretty motivated to get something to stay in a good position overnight.
