Anyone had amoxicillin in pregnancy?

I’m in my second trimester and I’ve been prescribed a weeks course of amoxicillin for suspected sinus infection. I’ve agreed with my doctor to watch and wait because I really don’t want to take anything during pregnancy...I know amoxicillin is meant to be the safest one but drugs just aren’t tested well on pregnant women so you can never be sure and I had a miscarriage last time so im so scared of something going wrong.

I’ve had the sinus infection for 17 days now and feel a lot worse today...I don’t think it’s getting better on it’s own. Just wanted to hear from others who might have taken it and all been ok really! Feel very unsure of what to do..I’m 18 weeks pregnant.

I had antibiotics in my 2nd trimester with DS2 because I had horrendous tonsillitis.
DS2 was absolutely fine other than discolored/weakened front top baby teeth. That’s the only side effect that I knew about that could happen to the baby and it did, but his other teeth are fine (he lost the top teeth at regular kid age).

And sometimes the risk needs to be considered against maternal illness. Please do take the course if you’re so unwell, you’ll feel better so quickly!

Yes amoxicillin for a sinus infection. Twice in two pregnancies. Everything was ok with babies. Please take them, the pain of sinusitis is dreadful and leaving it untreated can cause severe illness.

Amoxicillin is safe in pregnancy. I took it and have prescribed it.

I had it twice for a chest infection, baby was fine!

I had a uti in pregnancy and think I was prescribed amoxicillan (it was a long time ago!). All was fine. Interesting re the baby's teeth comment above, one dc has patchy teeth but I had no antibiotics that time.

I had a boat load of amoxicillan first pregnancy due to recurrent kidney infections and all was well, second pregnancy I did one better and got sepsis so got the real strong antibiotics then ... because I didn't want to take the antibiotics I was prescribed for a UTI and my immune system clearly wasn't my friend. Sepsis is nasty and really dangerous for you and baby, take the antibiotics 💕

Had it for a UTI in first trimester, no problems. Had IV metronidazole and another big hitter (I forget) during labour too with no lasting issues.

I’m on a low dose every night and have been since trimester one with no issues.

I have just had a course for sinus infection, I was in agony started them on the Monday and it had cleared by the end of the week. I also weirdly had the same with my first my son who is 18 months and no problems, dr said sinus infection in pregnancy are so common. As long as they are approved for use in pregnancy I haven’t had a problem but of course it’s each persons discretion and I can understand your hesitancy if you have had a previous miscarriage and want to be careful. Xxx

Thanks everyone I think I’ll start taking them if I feel no better in the morning. I wondered if maybe it wasn’t that bad as I don’t have the severe pain people talk about / any face pain at all but have lots of yellow gunk coming out of one nostril, constant headache and just feel really tired and rubbish.

Yep, had them in a previous pregnancy and all was fine.
Currently got me on nitrofurantoin and baby seems to be happy and still very active. I'd been dismissing pain thinking it was just spd (got so bad I though baby was trying to make an early appearance) and turns out I have an advanced UTI. Never put off treatment, they wouldn't prescribe it if it wasn't safe.

Baker0104 · 04/07/2021 20:29

Oh bless you... I'd defo take them. I recently finished a course of amoxicillin for a gum infection (my god the agony!) and I'm 37 weeks today. All OK so far! Hope you feel better soon x

Get a nasal rinse pot (neti pot) and start doing sinus drainage. Safe and really effective! I do it when I have a sinus infection and although it feels weird it really helps.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 05/07/2021 00:05

yes, it's fine

had it during 2 different pgs
I had a chest infection with DS4.
can't remember why the other was needed or with whom.
I think I had either an ear infection or bacterial throat infection - I get both a lot so very likely
