Type 1 Diabetes and 10 week ultrasound

Hi, I'm a type one diabetic about to get my 10 week ultrasound done at my MFM tomorrow. Are they able to do the scan over your belly even if you have a continuous glucose meter placed there for the next ten days? That's my best spot for it and I'm concerned they won't be able to see the baby. TIA. Also, when did you decide to find out the sex of the baby and would you suggest waiting or finding out early? We have waited for this rainbow baby a long time so please be kind in your commenting.

Hi @mamamarie123 I'm not diabetic so can't really answer but I can tell you they asked me to remove my belly piercing for my 12 week scan so they definitely seem to want everything out of the way.

I think it might depend on exactly where the monitor is attached on your belly? Considering it's important for you to track your blood sugar (I know this as my husband is type 1), I'd be surprised if they completely objected if it's in an area they can work around. The only thing is they might struggle to see specific areas of the baby which would be an issue if you are getting NT screening and the gel they use gets everywhere and might get all over the monitor.

Might be worth a call to the ultrasound department tomorrow first thing in advance to confirm if it will be an issue? You might have to remove your monitor early for that day and fit a new one after the ultrasound, if that's feasible?
