Staying 45 minutes away at 38 weeks?

My mother in law has asked if we would like to stay with her this weekend, she lives 45 mins away (25 miles). I’ll be 37+3 and a high risk pregnancy (purely because I’m carrying small and will need to head straight to hospital once labour begins rather than waiting at home). My mother in law is going to be looking after our 3 year old daughter while I’m in hospital anyway.. so we wouldn’t be able to go to hospital until she reached us. Obviously our daughter will be with us so we would leave her there and drive to the hospital if anything were to happen.

Do you think this is too much? Or am I being a little bit over cautious?

This sounds fine. Takes me 45 min just to get to my hospital anyway.

Sounds fine.

If anything was to happen you'd have to wait the 45 mins til she arrived at yours so instead you'd be driving the 45 mins.

Hospital bags in car just incase!

It sounds fine

Sounds fine to me. As you say, odds are you’d have a 45 min wait before heading to hospital either way. Our nearest hospital was 35 mins away (although DH managed it in about 20 when the moment came Grin). Not the most fun having contractions in the car but a) they’re not exactly fun anyway and b) if you’re going at the first sign then hopefully it wouldn’t be too full-on at that stage anyway.

Oh and yes to hospital notes AND consider taking the car seat too - just in case they let you out before DH has a chance to get home and fit it.

My hospital was an hour away.
No issue.

OMG I remember being stuck in the traffic jam to end all traffic jams on my way to give birth...

If anything happens, is there not another hospital nearer your mil.

Mollylikestodance · 30/06/2021 15:53

Fine!

Take notes, hospital bag and car seat - and research the closest hospital to your MIL in case your baby decides to make a fast entrance to the world 😂

I also live 45 minutes away from the hospital. In fact I had to fight tooth and nail to be able to give birth at the hospital closest to us as I live on a trust border, it means i can't see my community midwife. The options in my local trust are 60 and 80 minutes away.

Should be fine if you would have to wait the 45 mins anyways. You will feel more proactive getting straight in the car and just goin to the hospital instead of having to wait for child care to turn up.
We had to wait for childcare to meet us at the hospital ( my step mother lives 2hrs away we were 30 mins from the hospital) so poor Dh was doing his nut in the car park waiting for her to turn up. Ended up he was only in the room for 40 mins before ds was born.
Just make sure u have ur notes and hospital bags with u.
