so i've had a real craving for stuff like coffee and tea etc and i've actually decided drinking under the recommendation of caffeine is better than de caff (heard it's not that great for you) is good for us! 1 iced coffee a day i've had so far and baby is doing good! but my recent craving is earl grey tea! is it okay to drink this?? i'm not sure what it has in etc but it's not caffeine free. TIA Smile

It’s an early grey it’s fine. I certainly haven’t cut out my tea. Or coffee. I try to stick to the recommendations. I’m 28 weeks. If you want an Earl grey just have one, it’s not absinthe.

Standard earl grey tea? It'll be fine. It's just tea - what do you think it's going to do?

(Unless you normally put cocaine and vodka in your tea! Grin)

Throughout the whole of the twentieth century - at the least - women drank tea in pregnancy with no discernible ill effects.

I had two children and both pregnancies I drank tea throughout. They are adults now and I have three grandchildren. Seriously, have a cup of Earl Grey Op, it's really not going to hurt your baby.

It's tea, it's not crack. You'll be fine and so will your baby. Make it weak if you're really worried but honestly it's not a problem.

I had hyperemesis in first pregnancy and could only stomach Coca Cola and drank a few cans a day. My 3 year old is the epitome of health

You can also get decaf Earl grey

sparklyblue81 · 26/06/2021 18:42

Earl grey tea is totally fine, it’s just tea 👍 we have normal & decaf here as my 11 year old loves it too. I’ve drunk it every day in all 4 of my pregnancies 👍 Just keep it to 2-3 cups and it’s below the caffeine recommendation anyway x

SJMACC · 26/06/2021 19:05

M&S do a lovely decaf one- had it with a slice of lemon a lot during my pregnancy

Butterflyy20 · 26/06/2021 19:05

@sparklyblue81 thankyou i'll deffo get drinking it much prefer it to normal standard tea! it isn't so much caffeine i'm worried about i've realised with this pregnancy it's not a big deal in moderation just wondered about the herbs in it as "i know it's got something else it not sure what it is Hmm)

Earl Grey tea is standard black tea flavoured with bergamot. Although bergamot shouldn’t be used as an essential oil for massage etc in pregnancy, the concentrations in Earl Grey tea shouldn’t hurt.

summerhillgang · 26/06/2021 20:47

I drink decaf Earl grey everyday and am 26 weeks x
