What did your early labour contractions feel like?

Hi,

I'm 32 weeks with ds2.

I never had labour with DS1 as he was an elective csection due to various reasons. We've had to have a csection again this time for the same reasons plus some slight complications (nothing too serious)

I'm just wondering how your contractions started and what they felt like? Did you feel any different before they started?

Any replies really appreciated xx

I got a surge of energy a few days before I went into labour. Don’t use it to wash the windows!

Watching with interest as I’m also 32 weeks, my DD was induced and didn’t have a single ‘non chemical’ contraction if that makes sense and have no idea what I should be watching for!

@Blueballinthegarden I have no idea what to expect if I go into labour naturally so it's
Interesting to see what people experienced Grin

I had mild period pains approx every 10 minutes for a couple of days which grew in intensity, completely manageable with hypnobirthing breathing xx

Period pain type tightening of all the muscles in that area slowly growing in strength.

My DD was 10 days overdue and I actually loved the pain as it meant I didn't have to have an induction!

Really felt like I had a tightening sensation across my tummy. No pain. I was in early labour for 2 days and didn’t realise. Then accelerated very quickly end of 2nd day

We finally had an offer accepted on a house and I think my body could relax then because I went into labour 12 hours later. I woke up at 5am thinking 'ooh I'll go and make some bagels'. I decided to lie in bed for a while and noticed a very mild period pain. Then another a few minutes later. I started checking the time and realised the pains were coming every three minutes and they basically built in intensity from there. I was so surprised, I thought the contractions would start every 12 or 15 minutes and take a while to get going, but it was 3 minutes right from the start and for 1 minute every 3 minutes by about 8 hours. Sadly it didn't mean a quick labour though, i was only 3cm after 10 hours 🤯 I wasn't allowed gas and air at 3cm, I was soooooo annoyed and next time I'm going to buy my own canister!!!

In the morning I had some mild period pains with loss of mucus plug and like @starshideyourfires i had tightenings for the day, not painful though just a sensation of someone holding my stomach. They stopped at 6pm
But since i had never experienced braxton hicks i just assumed it was BH and not early labour!
At midnight waters broke and i active labor started straight away and baby born at 6am!

Mine didn't feel like period pain to me as I get all my period pain in my back, and I felt all of my contractions in my belly (even though my DC was back to back). I remember thinking my pains initially felt like someone was squeezing my bladder tighter and tighter until it started to ease off. That sensation basically worked its was up my bump over the next hour or so until it was all over my bump.

Tangledtresses · 25/06/2021 16:32

Braxton hicks at 32 weeks
Broken waters with all of mine first usually 3am 🙄 then period like cramps and then bang!!! full on contractions

EllieStartingOver · 25/06/2021 16:35

With my son, just backache that wouldn’t ease! I felt strange, but had no actual contractions - a midwife came to check me and I was 8cm dilated!

With my daughter, my waters broke and I had period like pains that started mildly and intensified over the course of an hour or two.

Chelyanne · 25/06/2021 16:42

I just thought they were braxton hicks until examined and found to be 1cm dilated with my 1st spontaneous labour (2nd child). Uncomfortable to start, start to be painful enough to stop me sleeping around 5cm dilated which is when I've rocked up at hospital. Once waters go they really ramp up in intensity.

I’m 33 weeks, booked for a section and want to know the same thing. My section isn’t til quite near 40 weeks and I’m slightly panicking I won’t make it but been told if I can get to the hospital in early labour they’ll still do the section. My sister told me the signs it was starting for her were: tiny amount of blood when she wiped, trickling feeling that was the start of her waters breaking, period pains and a sore back. I’m hoping I’m bound to notice at least one of those signs and will know to go to hospital 😂

Ragoo · 25/06/2021 16:51

@sarah13xx that's what I've been told too but I'm scared incase I do go early and I don't make it in time to have my csection, I have a feeling this baby might want to make an early entrance but then again, I thought that with my first and it all went smoothly and I made it too csection date, I think I'm just worrying unnecessarily haha
