Larger lady and baby kicks...

If you are carrying a little extra weight and was before pregnancy is it harder to feel baby kicking?
I've always had a bit of a belly (before pregnancy) and a bump is growing although some days I just still feel like it's just fat. Could the extra layer of fat affect if I could feel baby kicking? I just keep thinking a slimmer person would feel baby more?
(Sorry if this sounds silly...I'm just curious to know)

I had a BMI of 30 plus anterior placenta and felt movements at about 22 weeks

Second time round I had a lower BMI and posterior placenta and felt movements about 14 weeks. But its really hard to say which of those factors was making a difference.

You’ll still feel them from around 20-22 weeks onwards, as all the movements are inside- it might just be a bit more difficult for other people to feel them from the outside of that makes sense. Or at least that’s been my experience :-)

BMI of 30.5 here, posterior placenta, felt baby move at 15-16 weeks. You should still feel baby move as it's coming from the inside like if your tummy rumbles

BastardMonkfish · 24/06/2021 07:43

Nope made no difference to me. I could see baby moving from the outside fairly early on too and my BMI is v high. It just depends on baby's position, how much fluid is in there, all sorts of things. You should definitely feel movement by 22 weeks or so though- if you're anything like me you'll probably feel it well before that but tell yourself you're being daft! I didn't realise until my 20 week scan that baby was tucked into my left hip and all the little pops and things happening in that spot weren't actually gas Grin

BMI 34 and about a size 22 at the start of pregnancy. I felt kicks inside from about 18 weeks, and my partner could feel them outside from about 4 weeks later, but he had to press firmly 😬. By 26 weeks he could feel them easily.

BMI of 41 and I have an anterior placenta. Felt baby move from 18 weeks just like little butterfly feeling inside then proper kicks from about 22/23 weeks. Now at 33 weeks, I sometimes wonder is he going to bruise me with the power of the kicks, punches, rolls etc!

My bmi was 32 at booking and hubby felt baby kick at 21+5. I carry a lot of weight round my middle but I have excess skin after twins so flab sags to the bottom and I carry high. I could feel movement inside from 12wk despite an anterior placenta (baby 6), placenta is in fundal position now though at 32wk.
