Retroverted uterus, scan dating and early bleed

Hi,

I don’t know exactly how far along I am as I wasn’t tracking my ovulation but I’m somewhere between 6 and 7 weeks pregnant. My best guess is that I’m 6 wks 4 days from the date of my positive pregnancy test.

I had a bleed today so went to the hospital and they did an internal scan. They found a sac and baby, no heartbeat but they said this was ‘normal’ at this stage. I also have a very retroverted uterus and they said baby was measuring about 3 mm but it had been hard to get a good view due to the angle and again not to worry. Said it was hard to tell much at this stage.

They were really lovely and reassuring in the moment, no promises made of course but plan to scan again in 10 days. They suggested it was probably an implantation bleed.

Just wondering about people’s experiences with early bleeds and also early internal scans with tilted uterus’ in terms of dating because I can’t help but worry.

I had booked a private scan for Sunday but thinking of postponing at least until I’ve had my second scan at the hospital as don’t want to go for them not to be able to see anything or get bad news there - they can only do a normal ultrasound.

I have a retroverted uterus. And I've had early bleeding with both pregnancies that made it past the first trimester, one was a haematoma, one was unexplained.
I got a private scan at 8+1 weeks this time and as they only did abdominal scans it was very unclear, they confirmed heartbeat and really struggled to even get a measurement, I think she fudged it in the end after 30 mins. Had dating scan at 12 weeks exactly and I had to go back as they couldn't get proper measurements. Went back at 13+3 and got all measurements there and everything was fine. I honestly wouldn't put myself through the worry of a private scan at that early stage with a retroverted uterus just in case they can't see much, at least in the hospital they will have the ability to scan you internally if they need to. Hope you get good news OP Flowers.

Thanks @Bluey18

This is so far unexplained bleeding, it has stopped and my normal pregnancy symptoms are back...

The private scan place have been really good so I have been able to cancel for now. They don’t have the ability to do an internal scan either so I’d rather my next scans in the hospital where they can be more definitive.

Slight bleeds are usually fine. Wise to postpone private scans until the hospital can confirm if things are progressing as they should. With the retroverted uterus private places that don't do internal scans are not worth going to until a bit later anyway. Good luck with your next scan.

I have a retroverted uterus which has got worse with each term pregnancy as I've had some very large ones. Scanning wise it is very difficult in the 1st trimester and I have to have internal ones early on, often need to put clenched fists under my hips too so they can get the right angle. At around 12wk everything moves forward and it's easier to see on abdominal scans.
There are theories of it being linked to an increased risk of miscarriage, mine have been 50/50 for pregnancies that pass 6wk (lost 5 between 8 & 12wk, 5 children from 4 term pregnancies and 32wk now).

I've got a retroverted uterus, and had a private abdominal scan today at 7+1 and they saw it fine. I wasn't expecting them to be able to, because I'd read it might be difficult. And the TV scan at 5 weeks had more trouble finding it.

Thanks @Chelyanne. Congratulations on your pregnancy and sorry to hear about your losses. I have a horrible feeling about it but then I flit back to them cheerily offering to print me a scan and saying how everything was where it should be and I just had as retroverted a uterus as one could be so it was extra hard to see. It was used as a teaching moment with a few doctors in the room and the Dr doing the scan needed a bit of guidance from a consultant and they also ‘had a look around’ and took some practice measurements - which I didn’t mind at all as they were very lovely but now I’m picking it all apart. No bleeding today but I have nausea and an a very upset stomach with some cramps but the cramps come on when I need to go the loo rather than period like (again I’m picking them apart!)

Congratulations @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 they did an internal scan for me yesterday and say the heartbeat should be visible by 7 weeks but I don’t think I’m quite there yet.
