Increased baby movements at 39 weeks?

Hi I was just wondering if anyone can relate to this and can offer some encouragement...

Since about 37 ish weeks pregnant the baby's head has been engaged and I've noticed slight decreased movements as time went on, just as if she didn't have as much room, nothing worrying. Was reading this can happen as your getting close to labour, etc. But all of a sudden she's moving like crazy, keeping me up and wriggling all over the place and I'm now 39 +2.
MW measured me at 39 weeks and she's apparently had a growth spurt from just under 90th line to 97th line- so maybe she's just grown but I'm feeling a bit discouraged that she's moving so much as I thought I was close to labour and I'm at my wits end with pregnancy related ailmentsShock

Has anyone else experienced this?

You need to phone labour ward or triage for advice and hopefully go in for monitoring as increased movements can be a sign something is wrong.

You should phone the hospital to check aa you have a change of movement, it isn't just a reduction in movement that you need to be aware of. They'll probably ask you in so they can check you both over...good luck!

@Nutellamummy just noticed this post while searching for information on increased feral movements at 40weeks.

I’ve just been woken up by really increased, strong movements and called my midwife unit as it’s a definite change to usual pattern and they’ve told me they don’t feel concerned but to come in at 8am for a listen in at baby. Just wondered how you got on?

@GoRicky Hi just so you're not confused I changed my name...

I ended up ringing up a few nights ago because she wasn't stopping and they ended up putting monitors on me to check babys movements etc. All was fine and they did say they normally don't worry about increased movements but they said it was to put my mind at rest. They said it could have been her reacting to tightenings which I wasn't realising I was having but the monitor picked it up. Still not had her at 40 weeks +10.

I wouldn't worry, apparently it's quite normal as babys getting bigger and squashed. But easy to say that but when you're in the moment I think it's well worth ringing or having it checked to put your mind at rest. 😁 x
