How much weight did you gain?

I'm 30 weeks, weighed myself this morning and I've gained almost 25lb this pregnancy. The midwife says it's a bit much and I've read 25lb is what I should be gaining throughout the whole pregnancy and I still have 10 weeks to go.

I dont even think I'm eating that differently to pre pregnancy although I'm obviously exercising a bit less.

Can anyone share how much they had gained by this point/in total, should I be worried?

I gained almost 5 stone with my first, then lost 2.5 stone in 10days after having her and back to pre pregnancy healthy weight at about 6months pp.
With my second I gained 2 stone and back to pre pregnancy weight about 4 months pp.
I wouldn’t worry too much about it, just try to keep to healthy habits as much as possible.

I’m 34 weeks +2 and have so far put on 12kg. I wouldn’t worry about it because every mum is different. You will lose a lot as soon as baby comes out and during breastfeeding so just enjoy your pregnancy xx

4st with 1st, 4st with 2nd, 2.5st with 3rd. Stopped weighing myself at 2st gain with my twins because I was gaining so rapidly, was only 7lb heavier after birth though. This one I'm up 2.5st but I gained that by 16wk and been hovering around the same weight since then (hoping to keep it around the same until birth too), now 31+2.

popcorndiva · 17/06/2021 13:11

currently 35 weeks and have gained 1 stone. I have no appetite though this pregnancy and my BMI was 31 at booking in

With my first pregnancy I gained 2 stone, lost one stone in the first 2 weeks and struggled to lost the final stone so was heavier when I got pregnant this time.

MGee123 · 17/06/2021 13:32

I don't think you need to be worried, but being aware and trying to make some small diet changes might be sensible. Everyone is different, and there is also a difference between how much you need to put on and how much people do!!

The NHS website has guidance re average weight gain. It depends a bit on what your BMI was pre pregnancy. I had a normal BMI at the beginning (20.5) and have gained just over 7kg so far at 32 weeks (15lbs ish). On this trajectory I imagine I will end up having gained around 22/23lbs by the time I am full term. I have managed to stay very active so far, but imagine that will reduce in coming weeks so I may end up gaining a bit extra!

MM1993 · 17/06/2021 14:10

I'm also 30 weeks and have gained 12kg so far. I haven't eaten in excess or had any cravings. Was a healthy weight for my height pre-pregnancy and tbh other than my boobs and bump the rest of me looks pretty much the same however I'm also worried about gaining a lot in the last few weeks as I've heard that's when most of the weight piles on!
I have seen this online tho and according to this, my 12kg weight gain is within the normal BMI weight gain range so maybe I shouldn't be too concerned 🤷🏻‍♀️

For my first baby 30 years ago, I was told you can gain 2 stone, any more is you not the baby. They weighed you at every antenatal appt and wrote it in your notes. I gained about 2 stone with each baby ( 5 babies) . I was surprised with subsequent pregnancies that they only checked your weight at the booking in appts and didn’t monitor it, I’m not sure if it was a good thing or not!

C3PO31 · 17/06/2021 14:49

I’m 36+5 and last time I checked I’d gained around 15kg, I was 69kg pre pregnancy and am now around 84kg ish. My midwife couldn’t care less about how much weight I’ve gained, she said she’s not there to pass judgement about weight when every other part of my pregnancy is super healthy (aside from the fact I’m growing a whopper 😂).
So in all I think your midwife is a bit unkind and if she wanted to pass comments about weight she should have become a dietician or personal trainer 🙄.

PrinnyPree · 17/06/2021 14:53

Pretty much 40 pounds as I remember gaining at about a pound a week even in the first trimester since eating was the only way I could combat the nausea. (My BMI was 25 before pregnancy.) So I was 30 pounds up by week 30 and also worried I'd put too much on before the third trimester.

Lost it all by 6month PP (1 stone of that immediately) and then some since I was still breast feeding. Don't worry. :)

jamsandwich1 · 17/06/2021 14:53

Please don’t worry! I put on 35lbs with my first and I lost it all within 9 months and then 50lbs with second 😱 but lost it by 5 months without trying. I was v stressed but I think second time around I’ve been busy chasing after a toddler too!

PurBal · 17/06/2021 14:55

At 36 weeks I'd gained 20kg. I was horrified.

Luckyelephant1 · 17/06/2021 15:00

I'm 36 weeks and have gained around 10kg, and it's all bump. Normal BMI before. Have been eating normally I guess, although a bigger ratio of unhealthy snacks to healthy I guess.

I dont think it matters much as PPs have said but I do wonder how some people put on the likes of 4 stone (no judgement, I just mean physically how!) but I guess a lot of it can be things like water retention, large placenta, large baby etc.

Nesski · 17/06/2021 15:05

16kg at 39 weeks, I am mortified as this is the heaviest I've ever been and I havent changed my diet apart from eating cereal for breakfast, BUT I am more interested in measuring how much comes off immediately and then monthly!

sarah13xx · 17/06/2021 15:07

Yip, stopped weighing myself here too 😂 32 weeks and I’m past the 2 stone mark now! I think I’ll weigh myself the night before my due date just to see what the damage is and see what I lose instantly in the first week or two just out of interest 🙈 I’m thinking if a stone comes off straight away a stone to lose really isn’t that bad!

Suzi888 · 17/06/2021 15:07

About 12lbs, but did a lot of walking my whole pregnancy.

MikeWozniaksGloriousTache · 17/06/2021 15:10

31weeks tomorrow and gained, according to home scales, 5lbs.. (I’ve not been weighed since 12week scan) however I am very obese and during first trimester barely kept anything down, and during 2nd trimester - now found my appetite decreased a lot, so have been eating smaller (probably normal sized) portions as opposed to piling my plate high, and baby is measuring small. I wouldn’t worry too much about it, as PPs have said every body is different.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 17/06/2021 15:12

About 4 and a half stone 🤣 she's 5 months and I've still got justbunder a stone to lose to get back to pre baby weight. Ignore the midwife they always have a complaint.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 17/06/2021 15:17

I'm un the US where they weight you at every appointment. I put on 28lbs total. I had a healthy BMI when I got pregnant and was told to gain 25-35lbs.

I had horrible nausea for my whole pregnancy so the weight gain was a huge struggle. And then I couldn't lose a pound until I stopped breastfeeding at 6 months, at which point I lost a stone in 2 weeks.

McAvennie · 17/06/2021 15:22

16lbs at 30w, which then turned into 27lbs at 40+3.

I think not having any major cravings made it easier weight-wise as I pretty much ate the same as before pregnancy, and didn't feel much extra hunger other than needing an occasional midnight bowl of cereal!

PinkPurpleParade · 17/06/2021 15:39

I'm only 16 weeks and already 10lbs up, need to get my eating under control but I'm starving all the time!

PinkPurpleParade · 17/06/2021 15:40

With my first I gained 30lbs from booking in to when she arrived at 42 weeks, lost 20lbs within a few weeks but the last 10 stuck around and never disappeared.

Moominmiss · 17/06/2021 15:58

I’m 26+3 and have put on a stone, so just over 6kg so far.

My bmi was high at booking though (30/31), so I’ve been trying to make a conscious effort not to over indulge. But tbh my appetite has all but disappeared now. I just think baby is taking up all the room in there lol.

With my first I put on 4 stone!

Nat4392 · 17/06/2021 15:59

I gained 11lb by the end, I had bad sickness at the beginning and I had no appetite by the end. Baby was 7lb9oz.

Aberforthsgoat · 17/06/2021 16:00

Two stone by the end but lost a stone and a half of it within the first two weeks after a c-section

RandomCatGenerator · 17/06/2021 16:10

So interesting to see the spectrum here. I’ve been wondering this too.

I’m 29+5 and have lost 2kg from my conception weight. But I was - probably still am - obese and was carrying too much weight. It has forced lifestyle changes like no alcohol, more walking, more vegetables.
