Is anyone else on this much medication for high blood pressure?

Hi, about a month and a half ago at a routine midwife appointment my blood pressure was really high! I ended up in hospital for 9 days with it as they suspected I had preclamsia at first. I was only 21 weeks at the time. I’m now on 400mg of labetalol 4 times a day and 20mg of nifedipress twice a day to control it. I was just wondering if anyone else is on this much medication for high blood pressure during pregnancy? Thank you Smile

I was on 200mg from your stage and 400mg later on. It's not a big deal for you but be prepared that your baby may well be hypoglycaemic and need some time in nicu after birth. I was told mine would just need some extra feeds but this wasn't true for us and people I've spoken to since day what happened Us isn't uncommon. You should still take your pills tho- the benefits outweigh the risks- just make sure you're more educated than I was x

Did they start on that dose? I’m 22 weeks and have been on 200mg twice a day since 14 weeks, I have been told that I will likely need to be on a higher dose later on. I believe 1200mg a day is the highest dose you can take.

Apparently maximum is 2400mg. I hope I never need to take that much! How high was your blood pressure for them to admit you for that long?

Yea I’m on 1600mg of labetalol a day at the moment! They started on a lower dose whilst I was in hospital but it wasn’t controlling my blood pressure so they had to keep increasing it until they got the right dose for it to be normal! They have said they can go higher if it spikes again but luckily at the moment it’s staying normal! I think it was around 178/123 for the first day or two then gradually started to go down by a bit every day! X

I can't remember (I think I've blocked it out) but I was on a very high dose. Just be prepared for it to take a while to settle down afterwards. Mine got worse afterwards and I really didn't expect that . I was kept in hospital for almost a fortnight afterwards

Oh gosh really! That must have been horrible! X
