Hi everyone. So just had my 6 wk plus scan and everything is fine. Can see baby, sac & heart beat. I asked the sonographer for the hear beat rate but she said everything looks good and she has nothing to worry about. She did the scan internally and was getting a bit stressed cos my uterus wouldn't let her get the measurements and see stuff as baby was so close to it but she than scan my tummy and saw everything. Do I really need to know the rate. I think I've researched so much on google and had 2 mc so just abit nervous. May book for a private scan on a few weeks. Thanks in advance for any related stories or reassurance 🥰

If the sonographer said it was fine then it will be :)
But if you are stressed and will continue to worry then go for a private. I don't think it's good to stress all the small details though in all honesty.

Ive never been told the fetal heart rate at a scan. Once the sonographer is happy I'd be happy. I understand your anxiety though I booked 2 private scans early in this pregnancy due to anxiety.

@willithappen @snowwhite90 thanks so much for your replies. I'm also doing acupuncture so hoping not to stress out and will book a scan maybe at 8/9 weeks. Thank you guys

I outright asked my sonographer for the heart rate and she refused to tell me... she probably knows I would Google it incessantly lol Grin. She said there is no need to know at this early stage Hmm

I think 6 weeks is too early to see / hear the heart rate, my first scan was at 7 weeks (internal) and the sonographer couldn't make out heart rate as she said herself it was too early.

IloveGod2 · 15/06/2021 05:27

@Nutellatea lol thanks for your reply. Was everything ok in the end. I saw the flicker cos she showed me the screen, maybe she couldntbhear it herself lol

OP, in the nicest possible way you need to calm down your worries which I know is easier said than done, I had 3 miscarriages myself and am currently 32 weeks pregnant with my son. If everything is looking fine you really do not need to worry. Please do not overthink this. The reality is even if you were told the rate, you're still very, very early on, and things may go in different ways as you will know very well. Just take each day as it comes, it's a journey ahead of you and you can't get yourself worried about things that are fine.

FWIW it's not common to be told the heart rate at NHS scans anyway, some private ones will not do this either and like I said if it's within the norm, it is fine. If it was slow which is a worry, you would have been told. Please take care of yourself and best of luck Flowers xx

PurplePansy05 · 15/06/2021 05:38

And yes, it is entirely normal not to hear it, it depends on geststion and the scanning equipment settings. I've not heard mine till I think past 16 weeks and in fact not on any NHS scan to date.

@PurplePansy05 hiya thanks so much. Ur right it's all in Gods hands now. Even if I know the rate what more can I do with it. I just have to calm my nervous and it's not easy due to pass events. Blessings with ur pregnancy as well xxx

I am still in early stages but hoping things will be OK Smile The earlier scan was only 8 weeks and you could visibly see the heart beating. The second scan was later on, around 11weeks. She only switched the sound on for a few seconds and then turned it off again. Was lovely to hear it Smile But she wouldn't measure the heart rate lol and as other posters have said, they would tell you if it wasn't right. So try not worry when they tell you its all good!
