Holding baby bump

Just out of curiosity- when you were in your early pregnancy, say 8 weeks or so, and had no bump yet, did you find yourself holding the “bump” (that in my case isn’t there yet) or at least constantly touching your stomach?

Also should say, does this give it away do you think?

I think subconsciously you just touch your growing bump. Could give it away I suppose.

I sometimes gently rubbed my stomach.

Garman · 12/06/2021 08:10

No, I never held it or constantly touched it no matter how far along I was, I find the constant touching/rubbing/holding weird. If I saw someone with no bump doing that I'd assume they were constipated not pregnant!

KitchenWarrior · 12/06/2021 08:11

100% gives it away this is how I was "spotted" by a neighbour at 10 weeks!

ivfgottwins · 12/06/2021 09:11

Yes I constantly did almost from the day I found out I was pregnant. It's a comforting thing and emotional and physical bonding, just little pats, strokes etc

I know Meg Markle got grief for doing it but she did it in a very overt obvious way in the way she "held" her bump

Chelyanne · 12/06/2021 09:28

In private yes but not in public.

4PawsGood · 12/06/2021 09:29

Not until I felt it move, I don’t think.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 12/06/2021 09:39

I’m 13 weeks tomorrow and have started to find myself touching it around the house... I don’t think I do it outside yet. It’s a subconscious thing so it seems pretty random.

I’d be careful about it if nobody knows yet - there’s a chance nobody will notice, but if they do, it’s a pretty big giveaway!

Nat4392 · 12/06/2021 09:41

I think I only started rubbing/touching my belly once it started getting bigger and was accompanied by movements

SleepingStandingUp · 12/06/2021 09:43

Yes agree it's a subconscious comforting thing, also I'm incredibly clumsy so there was a protective thing too

GummyBear91 · 12/06/2021 09:43

A little early on but was conscious of not giving it away.

Now my hand is often on my stomach as our little girl is VERY active and my placenta is at the back and top of my uterus so she's pushed forward. I'm also pretty slim so there's not denying when she moves. I'm 25w now and she makes me jump and is sometimes a bit brutal so I end up rubbing my stomach to ease the kicks!! If people think it's weird then ignore them, it's your body and while at times pregnancy feels like it will go on forever it really doesn't so enjoy rubbing your tummy!

georgarina · 12/06/2021 09:44

I didn't until I was pushing back when baby moved

I always touched/held my bump. I loved the connection. And yes, I think it would definitely give it away!

Studies show that babies (in the second and third trimester) love when you hold your bump.

JewelGarden · 12/06/2021 11:44

I'm not really a bump holder. I did run my hand over my bump the other day and where babies head is under my ribs I'm sure I felt her nose. Just this tiny little bump. So I rubbed it and was punched in the hand Grin

SleepingStandingUp · 12/06/2021 12:15

Def don't think you can feel her nose through your flesh so if it's hard enough to stock out it's Def hard enough to fight back 🤣😂😂

Inmypjsagain · 12/06/2021 12:20

People have commented that I don’t touch my bump at all, must admit I find the sensation a little bizarre, like I can’t believe there’s a baby in there. If I’m being really kicked I touch it to try and stop it, but that’s about it.

Just do what feels right! If I saw someone rubbing their stomach I’d assume they either had a tummy ache, pregnancy would cross my mind too I suppose!

MrsCrosbyNRTB · 12/06/2021 12:23

Oh yes 100%! I loved being pregnant and I loved stroking my bump
