Gestational diabetes at 36 weeks

Hello. I’ve been diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 36 weeks and I’m worried. I went in for a scan at 38 weeks and the baby’s abdomen measured way off the charts and current estimated weight is 8lb1oz. I’ve been asked to go in and see the the doctor next week but I’m really worried about being diagnosed so late and also gutted because I haven’t had much sweet stuff apart from sugary drinks and also been exercising 3-4 times a week.

Will the baby be ok? Does anyone have any experience of being diagnosed so late in pregnancy?

Sorry should say went for a scan at 36 weeks - the scan is what has triggered the referral for GD.

I was diagnosed at 32 weeks. Induced at 38 weeks. Even in labour was told baby was big/maybe too big to deliver....
Baby weighed 6lb 8oz and was delivered without any intervention. So not big at all!

Thank you for this! I’m glad it worked out for you. I’ve heard they can sometimes get the measurements wrong so I’m hoping this is the case for me.
