If you had a second SGA baby...

...how did the second half of your pregnancy the managed? I was rocking along nicely with a textbook low risk, average sized baby with DD1 until the very end when I was induced for tailed of growth, and she was 9th centile. Just had my 20 week scan and this one isn't measuring very big either despite my daily aspirin, and I know my Papp-a was fine when I had my screening bloods. Sonographer said measurements were small but not necessarily a problem at this stage.

I was hoping for a spontaneous MLU birth with this one but I need to start getting my head round the fact it may not pan out that way (I appreciate 20 week measurements are a snapshot and things can change). I already have a consultant appointment and growth scan for 30ish weeks but I'm keen to know what happened with other ladies who had a second SGA baby ended up doing, although of course I know everyone is different. I'm already assuming I won't be allowed to go over 40 weeks if we stay small!

Can’t help with a second but one of my twins had IUGR and it all ended in very dramatic fashion - he stopped moving, I didn’t know but went in because I felt unwell and like something was very wrong, luckily they took me seriously and I had an emcs two hours after I arrived for a check up. I was 35+1 but DT2 was only 3.5lb (DT1 was 4.5lb).

DT2’s measurements dropped significantly from 20 weeks - by 28 and 32 weeks his legs were below 5th centile but because of appointment cock ups I didn’t see a consultant in person. So it’s good that they are keeping an eye - just be on the cautious side if you have any worries.

Hi,
My daughter was born at 4lb 6, despite a growth scan in the later stages of pregnancy not finding any problems with weight.

I am currently 34 weeks pregnant with DC2 and have had several growth scans, baby was estimated at 4lb 2 at 33 weeks, is on 10th centile and my consultant is of the mind that as long as he follows his 'line' on the growth charts (doesn't drop a centile) all is ok and some women just have small babies.

Bear in mind that scans can be out 15% odd each way, and early induction for SGA seems counter intuitive! Surely more time to grow is for the best?

Thanks both, I had a doppler scan for blood flow this week which was all fine so I'm slightly less worried now and hopeful that they'll just go with her being 'constitutionally small' as the midwife put it.
Hopefully if we keep following the line and growing then we'll be left on monitoring but see what happens, with hindsight I guess it was the fact that DDs growth tailed off that we were induced, rather than she was 'just' a bit small, so maybe I'm worrying a bit unnecessarily!
