Planned c section - order of surgery on the day

I’m having a planned c section next week and just wondered if anyone knew how they worked out the order of who goes first etc? Do they do high risk first and will I be told a slot when I get there in the morning? Thanks

You should probably ask at your hospital, but at mine all planned sections had to arrive at 7:30 the consultant came and assessed everyone then decided the order, then I just had to sit in the waiting room until I was called in.

I should say, there was only one other woman when I had mine, and hers was a more complex surgery (under general anaesthetic) so she went first.

The told me I was 3rd on the list when I got there at 7am. No times are given as they often have emergencies come in and will always do them 1st. Once they were ready for me everything moved really fast, our twins were delivered at 10:30&31. We waited in the recovery room and they brought me back to the same one after surgery, just us in there so nice and private.

In my experience (2 elective sections), I was always told to come in for 7.30am, and then once there I was told a proposed order. Both times I was in fact 3rd on the list for the day. But I was always made aware that should any emergencies crop up, they would take priority and mine would be pushed back.

I remember chatting to a lady who was 5th on the day and hers ended up being pushed to the following day due to several emergencies needing to happen before hers.

So while you will likely be told your position when you go in, I wouldn’t base too much on this as it may or may not actually happen in that order!
