12 week scan - do you get to hear heartbeat?

Got our dating/nuchal translucency scan next week! I’m nervous but trying to squash that and remain excited to see our baby

In my head I thought you could hear the heartbeat then but I’ve since heard online you can’t sometimes? That they don’t have the sound up etc

Has anyone had a scan recently do they let you? I’m fine if not but I was quite excited to hear it for the first time :) the wait for this scan has felt long enough!

@babyboybluex thank you so much! Although I’ll be just happy to see them I’ve been so excited to hear that little thumping heartbeat.

Thank you so very much :) xx

Hi, congratulations! Such an exciting time. I didn’t get to listen to the heartbeat at the 12 week scan but had an appointment at about 15w4 where they let me listen to it but said they couldn’t guarantee letting me listen until 16 weeks. So they tried and I heard it which was lovely. It might vary from trust to trust but that’s how it was for me and it was only a couple of weeks ago!

@SmoothieQueeeen Enjoy every second! I'm in Scotland and our hospital let us hear the heartbeat whilst seeing it thump away. Like @GoBrookeYourself said, it may vary from trust to trust.

Hope you can get a little listen! If not, your next midwife appointment is only around the corner Flowers

NHS, I didn't hear the heartbeat with until almost 28wk.
They did check it on scans but never turned volume on, we listened to it at a private scan at 16+4wk though.

I didn't get to hear it at the 12 week scan.

It will just depend on your trust. My care during this time has been rather lacking compared to other mums (Facebook group) that I talk to. I’ve heard heartbeat once and 30wks tomorrow.

I wasn’t offered to hear heart beat at the 12 week scan but the midwife used the Doppler at the 16 week appt.

I had my scan on Tuesday - You can see the heartbeat but you don't hear it then, there's no sound. I was told I'd hear it at 16 weeks on the Doppler but they don't play it before then.
