Got an examination done yesterday by midwife I'm 36+2. Midwife said I was closed. I've just checked and I can fit the tip of my finger into the tip of my cervix (can't go fully in) just fit my finger in the tip. This was the same yesterday. Was she right or?😂😂im not sure what it's supposed to feel like!

Yes that's essentially a closed cervix. If it just "admits a fingertip" you wouldn't even class it has 1cm dilated- so it's closed. Which is normal and to be expected at 36 weeks!

Why are you sticking your finger into your cervix? Confused Honestly, just leave it be.

Babyiwantabump · 08/06/2021 04:13

Why are you sticking your finger in your own cervix at 36 weeks ? A midwife certainly shouldn’t be examining you at that gestation either!

Your cervix can be open on the outside (external os) but closed on the inside (internal os), like a closed-end funnel.

Muchmorethan · 08/06/2021 04:28

Stop doing that! The risk of infection is huge.

SugarCoatIt · 08/06/2021 05:38

You really shouldn't be poking about in your cervix OP, im not quite sure why your midwife would be either, but think you need to leave well alone.

Thanks for the concern guys :) midwife thought my waters broke yesterday so that's why I got examined and I've had awful pains all evening so just checked. Washed my hands before etc. Didn't come on here for a lecture :)

Leave your doughnut hole alone
It's normal to be closed at 36 weeks

@ggggrace I think people are just concerned OP, better to say something than not.

Hope you're feeling better today, and all the best with the rest of your pregnancy Smile
