Was it an electric fence, or just a random electric shock you get occasionally?

An electric fence to keep horses in their field

You poor thing! Not during pregnancy but I've been zapped a few times by electric fences. Whilst they are not pleasant they're designed just to shock and not to cause injury and would need to be far more strictly controlled if they were dangerous enough to cause problems for you or your baby.

That being said I understand your worry and it's totally understandable to feel anxious after such a (literal) shock. Is baby moving as normal? Are you far enough along to ring maternity triage for some reassurance?

Electric fencing cannot do any harm at all. I got zapped frequently when pregnant (horse is an arse), it’s not strong enough to hurt anyone.

Thank you so much! Am only 17 weeks so not quite feeling movements yet. Was just panicking as the few Google results i could find all said baby died

Yes! Faulty plug went bang (left a scorch mark on wall) a d shocked me as I was taking it out. Was scary. I phoned the pregnancy unit and they advised a and e out of an abundance of caution but all was fine. They checked my heart and then did the check of baby where they hook you up for a while but I think that was because I didn't feel her move for a little while. I think that was due to me getting stressed out tho, she soon started bouncing around. I'm sure you will be fine, just give the midwife unit a call to be safe!

I gave myself an electric shock off a faulty plug socket when I was 13 weeks, went to A&E because I was convinced after googling that I'd stopped my baby's heart - but she was absolutely fine.

Electric fencing though I really wouldn't worry about - ours is mains powered and when I get the occasional zap it's far more like a static shock, the power runs through an energiser before getting to the fence so it's nowhere near the same current.

I shocked myself on my fencing at 24 weeks, the days after it, I convinced myself I couldn't feel baby moving around as much so got so worked up ended up ringing hospital, went it and was absolutely fine 🤦🏻‍♀️
Just didn't tell them I'd zapped myself 😂
